Yes that is theft !

OK..yes, it is,  technically, theft.

Horrific!

As i said earlier, the tax disc has no value to anyone else.

The reason for this horrific theft was simply as a ploy to find a way to get a few baht by way of a fine, by making it look like the guy had no tax for this year.

The rest of my post, i stand by 100% .

The guy you are standing up for [OP] is well known for his vivid immagination, and telling of tall tales, and if you believe even a small amount of his multitude of contradictory, highly embellished, BS then you must also be a troubled soul.

Dear garryjohns, if you don't like my posts, imagination or tall tales, why not put me on ignore, like I've just done with you.

Man, you are so ruthless when it comes to using the "ignore function" :shock1:.

Must be 90% of members now that you ignore, i guess that saves you having to explain your contradictions and other BS when you are asked to clarify.

As long as you understand and believe your posts all is well for you.

Anyways i have never said that i don't like your posts.

Its quite entertaining to see a grown man make such a spectacle of himself so frequently.

Its mostly fiction, but i can get a chuckle out of some of them.

And besides that

You are spot on in this summation IMO as the tax sticker is only relevant to the make, model, and registration number of MJMTB bike, so it is not something that the cop would steal for any other reason [if in fact this account is factual]

Would it help if I told you they want me to pay the fine at Pra Sing police station (center of all police corruption/music license scams).

And not Chiang Mai Provincial Police Traffic Operational Center, near the market/river where traffic violations are normally paid."

I could be wrong but last time I rode down that way it was demolished. Unless its been rebuilt? Anyone know?

I believe the central police station in Muang Chiang Mai is now the place to go for fines etc.

It's not far from Wat Phra Singh actually.

I got pinged a while ago and took the full 7 days before the missus went and paid the fine in order to get my licence back....no point in hurrying these days and it gave me 7 days of free running!  Woo who! ?

A couple weeks ago I helped someone to file a police report for a missing passport -- at Central Muang Police Station, near Wat Prasing.  I was there for over an hour, and despite having pretty good radar for corruption, etc, I didn't see any sign of it, just a very busy place with many people, both Thai and foreign paying traffic fines, filing police reports, etc.

The person I was assisting asked me if he'd have to pay "tea money" to get a police report about his missing passport.  I said "let's just wait and see what happens".  He was asked for 20 baht from the BIB -- I don't think that was corruption, but just a fee to cover the cost of carbon paper, etc.

Incidentally, I don't drive a motorbike, but I do know that in Iowa City, the last place I had a "tax stamp" for a two-wheeled vehicle, you were suppose to affix the annual tax stamp onto the bicycle, not carry it around with you.  And, oh yeah, we paid an annual fee for our dog in Sumpter Township, Michigan and she was suppose to have the tag on her collar, not at home with us, or else she could get picked up as an unlicensed dog.  See her collection of "tax tags", below.

A couple of times I have gone to the police station to report that I had lost my wallet, licenses, debit cards etc and each time the report cost me 20 baht.

You need a copy of the report to show the bank when you ask for new cards and to the DLT when you get your licence replaced. It is a sort of service charge.

Interesting thread and the direction(s) it has (like many others) taken.

As to the tax disk... if the BiB "misplaced" it,  it surely would have caused the OP the stress they might have been looking to cause.  Stealing might not be the correct wording.

Clearly, when you have everything required "they" should not have any reason for more digging/tickets/fines, etc.

Thanks to this thread, I have just photo copied everything again and placed the copies inside the bike.

Ready for the next rodeo circus road block.

Well, I did gain the knowledge that the police station to pay fines had moved to Pra Sing.

So it was worthwhile.

BUT

Why would he want to steal my tax disk?

Any ideas?

I reckon they were teaching a lesson to the falang who thought he could drive around with displaying his tax disk.

In other our words they were fukhing with you...the whole cop shop was probably rolling with laughter when the story was told later.

Mine is stuck on the front of the bike with a layer of adhesive plastic (and on the car windshield the same way).  It's been that way since the first year I had a vehicle and got fined 400 THB for not having in suck on the front of my vehicle.  I'm not a slow learner.  So, for the last 9 years, they can't b***h about my tax stamp.  Hell, if they plan to shake me down now I record it all on camera. I have all my own paper work in order.

If our tax stamp is visible, and can't be easily removed, and we have copies of our passport picture and Visa pages, copies of the current Green Book pages, and a valid driver's license, there is no way a cop can gig us. You don't have to carry these in your pocket, either. Stored on the bike or in the car is more than sufficient.  I know that lots of folks love to 'talk' about police planting drugs or other illegal items on foreigners, and perhaps it has happened to one or two... But the odds against it are just so bloody remote that it's not even worth considering.

Follow the rules and the odds are in your favor.  It IS that simple.
