DPM Wisanu assures election to be held next February unless….

Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Krea-ngarm reiterated today (Wednesday) that the election roadmap would be in February next year unless there is an unpredictable event when the Constitutional Court is asked to interpret certain provisions of the Senate or MP election laws.

Minus the issue concerning the Constitutional Court, he said that the election would be held next February even if the Senate or the MP election laws are to be reviewed by a joint scrutiny committee because this factor has already been calculated in advance.

The government’s top legal expert said that the unpredictable incident could arise when one-tenth of the members of the National Legislative Assembly or just 25 of them petitioned the charter court to interpret certain provisions of either of the two election laws or members of the public could ask the prime minister to raise the issue with the charter court.

Just teeing up the next delay in advance...

I thought they would run out of excuses but seems not just yet !!!!

Shame there is only a small core of activists, the majority are ambivalent to their fate. Or the arrests of the few is doing what is intended and scaring the rest ??

All of these election delays really don’t much matter. Because the junta will never allow a free, un-rigged election.

If, by some strange quirk of fate, His Happiness (or his proxies) were to actually lose an election, a plot to subvert the country would be quickly discovered and the election voided.

The generals and their cronies are making far too much money, and besides…you don’t steal something with the intention of giving it back.

Govt reaffirms plan to hold election in Feb 2019

BANGKOK, 1 February 2018 (NNT) – The government has given its reassurance that the general election will take place in February 2019 as long as everything goes as planned.

Commenting on the Constitution Drafting Commission’s proposal for the establishment of a tripartite committee to vet the organic bills on the election of MPs and the origin of senators, Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs Wissanu Krea-ngam was adamant the matter would not cause a delay in the general election.

As the election timeframe is already stipulated in the national reform roadmap, he insisted that the poll will be held as scheduled unless the Constitutional Court needs to review the draft organic laws first or any other unexpected factors come about.

Meanwhile, Royal Thai Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Chalermchai Sittisart noted that since many activist groups have begun to hold various campaigns, security agencies have been instructed to intensify their operations and strictly enforce the law to prevent untoward incidents. He reminded the public that the expression of personal opinions is always allowed but only within the legal framework.

Delay will only happen (yet again), the con-merchant says, if 'any other unexpected factors come about.'

Well, those 'unexpected factors' are entirely expected and will be engineered to arise, to maximise the tenure and advantage of the junta (not the Thai people) - and there is always the predictable 'unpredictable' which will give them months and months of delay straight off the bat  - the demise of a particular person  ...

With the appointment of about 100 army officers and around a dozen police officers - serving or retired - to the NLA, Prayut shouldn't have any problems seeing that the charter court is petitioned ad infinitum  to create delays.

I heard Yingluck has booked a flight back home to watch the Feb election but her 1st class air ticket bought was allowed to be cancelled with full refund due to her confidence that it will occur.

More amazing I heard Red Bull Boss was on the same flight with same conditions!

The "legal framework" being - if we don't like your opinion we can always use Article 44, defamation laws, Computer Crimes Act, or LM to shut you up.

Exactly.. Another year in black plus a few push-backs to really prepare the political field and the elections...

Feb should be ok, just 2021 instead of 2019...
