If you apply early you will get five years. My five year was given in August 2009, renewed and expired on my birthday June 2015, my latest expires on my birthday June 2021....Both near six years..As I said, a little after your birthday when you have a five year running they will go to your next birthday for expiration..

When you 'upgrade' to 5 year license it will be valid till your birthday. Now for renewal of 5 year DL, do that one day after your birthday and you will get 5 years + till your birthday, so almost 6.
