Crime Suppression Division officers and Muang Pattaya police raided a women-only pub in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district early Wednesday morning.

It had repeatedly stayed open well past the mandated 2am closing time, disturbing the neighbours.

Police arrived at 5.30am and found about 100 patrons drinking and dancing, including one who was under 20 and two who tested positive for substance abuse.

Pub manager Pornpansa Thipnon, 21, was charged with selling alcohol to a person under 20 and illegal operation of a night-entertainment venue.

Inspector Pol Lt Colonel Korakot Yeunyong said police would advise the Bang Lamung District Office to shutter the pub for five years, in accordance with Order 22/2558 of the military junta-backed Article 44 of the interim constitution.

What happens in practice when a place is closed for 5 years? Does it have to sit vacant and boarded up and not rented out to anyone? If the pub owner was just renting the building, that's really not fair to the property owner.

Does the pub owner sell it to a friend who slaps a new name on the door and reopens a week later using the same decor? Or does the owner tend to completely lose everything they put into fixing the place up?

Or does it remain closed for a month or so while the penalty is "appealed" and bribes paid so that the penalty is reduced to a fine and the place reopens under the same ownership?

When a place is closed down for 5 years, no other "entertainment" venue can be opened there during that time. The reason for this is quite obvious: no simple name/owner change and fly from there. Most places have a long-term rental contract; once the hammer falls, there's no more money for rent and the place goes back to the owner, who's then holding the short end of the stick, because his options for renting out are somewhat limited - and he needs to gut the building and put it back into a presentable/rentable state...

I'v seen quite a few with a beautiful girl on their arm.

Even my son in M5 says the TOMS have the best decked out to the nine chickie poos on their arms. Can't rightly dispute that, just look the other way when they walk by me. Don't want to give them the satisfaction of seeing me salivate.

Seems like lots of men in this women only pub (photos).

They are young men.  Bar girls work in pubs for men and bar boys work in bars for women.  I know one of the guys.  He does quite well.  The ladies get the money from the farang men and give it to Thai boys who in turn give it to Thai girls.  And the money goes round and round.  It is called foreign exchange.
