More trouble in Pattaya: Violent Walking Street brawl caught on camera

Note to self:  Completely erase both Pattaya and Phuket off my "Places I'd like to see in Thailand" list.

It ant as bad as you read in here but it still ant for everybody if you like partying then come if not then don't. Or just come for 2 days and make up your own mind. You don't believe everything you read in the newspapers do you why would you think all these negative stories about Pattaya is the whole place. OK it ant paradise but I don't really think most people are saying it is. These stories serve 1 purpose only. 

I have been here for 4 years and have been here many times before I have never been involved in a fight or thought I needed to defend myself. Actually I am 42 and haven't been in a fight since I was 15. So don't worry about it.

I used to see far worse in other countries, my own included. I never feel under threat walking around Pattaya late at night and I've lived here for 11 years.

I don't like the idea of violence or fighting unless it is clearly a matter of self defense.    That statement includes how i feel about policies of countries   There's nothing really clear in this short clip other than we have a not young or buffed falang involved in an altercation  with Thai  fellows.

 

As I see it, this not young felang more than held his own.    He  gave far better than he received.

 

In the end the Thai fellow in the white  shirt decided he did not have enough fellow Thais to help him gang up on the falang.  The Thai guy let it all go.    I give a power rating to the yellow shirt guy.   Tough dude.

Pattaya is a family resort, probably one of the best in Thailand, it's just the newsworthy stuff happens in the less family frequented areas. I love the Pattaya region for the water parks, zoos, Harbour Mall, the variety of shops, the higher percentage of English speakers (as my Thai is still poor) and when the kids (even the older ones) want to go down Walking Street, we go as a family and have never experienced any of this stuff (touch wood). Maybe, like anywhere in the world, if you go looking for trouble you will find it. It's not the location, it's the mind-set.

I just had a great weekend in Pattaya, including Saturday night on Walking street listening to some great music. people take these incidents out of context and blow them out of all proportion generally speaking.

The scaredy cats who say they will never go to Pattaya....ok no problem...don't go.... you won't be missed. If a brawl is reason to not go to a town then I am afraid there aren't many places left for you to go to in Thailand or elsewhere.

Pattaya isn't a family resort.  It reminds me more of Shanghai in the twenties when the sailors were in town (I remember it well ) and should come with an adults only warning!

 

Thailand has some wonderful beaches and great restaurants and a lot of warm and welcoming people.  And then there is Pattaya....

Pattaya maybe, but not the whole of Thailand. Families go to other parts of Thailand - well families from my neck of the woods (UK) anyway.

Maybe he should have tried a ladyboy, or maybe he did and that caused his reaction.

The only problem is that the biggest beneficiaries of  kickbacks from bars, prostitues, porn industry, drugs, land mafia, extortioners, boiler room scammers etc etc are all very powerful persons in uniform or closely connected to them, collecting by the billions? If there are only legitimate businesses catering to families, who suffers the most? The very people who are tasked with cleaning them up!

I can never understand why fighting would even enter a blokes head in a place like this. Everything a man could possibly want is on tap, yet they manage to find a reason to get involved in fisticuffs?

 

I would actually question their sexuality if they prefer rolling around with other men to what else is on offer...

Absolutely true.  But how many more would come and spend their holiday money if they didn't have to explain to their kids why there are puddles of puke on the Saturday morning sidewalks, and why there are 14" plastic schlongs and in-your-face porn for sale right outside their hotel door?

 

For every dollar they'd lose in beer and bar fines, I suspect they'd gain $2 in family spending.  It would be painful for awhile, but more sustainable for the long haul.

I think that is why cgi was separating Pattaya from the rest of Thailand.  There are plenty of family friendly places still around and anyone going to Pattaya for a family holiday needs their heads examining.  The same with Phuket.  We used to go there from Chiang Mai for a family holiday but never to Patong.

Reminds me of Cyprus, Philippines, America, Canada, BWI, various European locations and of course Scotland.
