A location for a Casino has been built maybe 15 years ago already.

It's next to the Ambassador Hotel, very south of Jomtien

Interesting call. Love to see some sort of monorail, trolleybus or tram system in place to ferry punters there and back from Pattaya and Jomtien.

Just imagining sitting among the hoards of degenerate smoking alcohol infused Chinese gamblers mixed with sleeveless unwashed flip flop wearing Pattaya tourists on a trolleybus, brings me less than happy thoughts.

The sort of punters they will be looking for do not use public transport.

If ever a casino is legal in Pattaya, prices for everything will soon exceed anything most on here can afford, and it will be wonderful for hookers, but we won't be able to rent them as too expensive.

I disagree. In Vegas, for sure,  high rollers are catered for with VIP this and VIP that. Yet, more space is taken up in casinos for the average Joe or Joanne whose accumulated spend far exceeds that of high rollers. I have briefly visited a casino in Macao and can confirm it is thronged with Chinese punters that are loso not hiso.

Hong Kong's 2 racecourses are further testament to the mass appeal of gambling. It is not the exclusive province of the rich by any stretch of the imagination.

So I think you and me will be on the mass transportation option to reach any casino in Pattaya and the high rollers will arrive by limo or chopper or luxury yacht. After all, Pattaya caters to all tastes and all pockets.

First moved to Pattaya 15 years ago and even back then lots of talk about a casino.  Usually in the "sshh don't tell anyone this but I know someone who knows someone who knows someone in town hall/Thai Govt/head of a Thai bank who has seen the plans for a casino in Pattaya.  The talk usually leads on to real estate speculation.
Have heard the same "ssshhh don't tell anyone but..." stories about Disney land, F1 and some mega factory or lab of some kind.

Take it all with a pinch of salt and a dash of Maggi sauce :-)

There used to be an illegal casino on Pattaya central road,
my informant tells me it was shut down shortly after the last coup.
A Navy Captain who says he knows the owner has told me that there is no casino ready and waiting for law change at the Ambassador hotel !

Probably more that the Ambassador has facilities that could be used for a casino should one be approved.

Any casino that allows lo so Thais in will be, IMO, a bad thing as poor Thais will ruin themselves to gamble if allowed. I do believe that in some countries only foreigners are allowed to gamble in casinos, but I hope it never happens in Pattaya, as it will ruin the place even more than already.

There are several more current issues that are ruining peoples lives and killing people that will should, but never will be addressed.

Huge amounts of money would be made from gambling, I bet the least worries would be for potential locals addictions.

There is already massive underground gambling, legalization would bring some much needed government income maybe some of which would filter down to those lo so Thais....who of course should be allowed in to take part....excluding them would be a bit like not letting them vote ..because they keep choosing the "wrong" persons to form a government !

I was led to believe that a whole floor at The Ambassador Hotel is reserved for when the laws are changed and gambling is made legal, word on the street also says sometime very soon, maybe even next month or April.

Are you taking the proverbial?

What street is it you hear this - IE from whom and why you should take any notice of them.......I am really quite curious.........

I heard the same but don't want say to much as it's on the QT.

Suffice to say missus's sister's boyfriend best mate heard two policeman talking about something that their boss was told by his local motocyc taxi guy.

Motocyc guys are the fountain of all knowledge over here so it's nailed on.

I reckon that it'll happen sometime on Tuesday afternoon once they've closed down the rest of these dangerous & highly illegal dart board teams.

I heard it from 2 totally unrelated sources on separate occasions, they both frequent various places where people in the know go.

Not saying its true, but a certain someone is fond of a punt or two at the tables.

It's more along the lines of people with baht in their eyes wishin' and hopin'.

Belongs in the same basket as the stories of Pattaya becoming the "Asian Riviera", the "place where rich people flock to", and the "hub" of sport tourism etc etc etc.
