You only need 10, which I had, being a student half that time.

I recently doubled that by posting back the last 10 years for 1500 pound. Probably this guy has 10 years, let's chip in and get him 65000 baht so he can get over 100 quid a week, more than enough to live in a shack in bloody rural Buriram.

I paid in for 44 years and I only get £95 a week frozen at 2009 rates.

I am not sure of the DWP pension rules any more and how far back and at what rates they will accept contributions. Also I am not sure if he would get a full pension or a partial one.

To give an accurate answer you would have to know how many contributions he has made, how many years back they would let him pay and they will come up with a figure.

As for his weight and falling down, if he has a back back and kneecaps, getting down is hard and getting up harder still under normal circumstances, let alone after a fall.

You've not reached the finish line yet, mate. Funny how life has a way of dealing unexpected cards..you may one day be put in such a position and let's see how strong is your pride then.

It's called the "yets": ain't happened YET.

What a silly comment to say to a paraplegic, please keep up.

The truth is he's got a severe addiction to food- to the extent he's now immobilised and without a penny.  He can't even get on a plane in his state.  I think most of us have addictions which we manage to control.  His appears disastrous.  I don't want to chuck stones: I don't think he's made a freewill choice- that's the nature of addiction.  In truth, I don't feel inclined to offer help either, perhaps that's something I need to work on- I don't know.  I really think it's something the authorities need to sort out, although there's no chance of that.

I feel for the poor Thai Wife but not for him....... In the US we the Tax payers are 'carrying the load' for so many similar cases of people who live their daily life just getting by...... All their productive years they did nothing..... Now they get 'old' and they want 'other folks' to continue to support them.............. Sorry........... I'd rather support an Issan poor family who never had a chance during their productive years, and give them a bit of assistance with my help.............

This guy in his hospital bed looks like he 'drank away' his money rather than 'saving' for 'the rainy day'.......  NOW it is a rainy day for him and I have no sympathy for him.......... I have 'truck loads' of sympathy for his wife and child........... Sorry to add that I hope he is taken to the 'Wat' for burial before the hospital bills exceed the donations and I hope the wife has a few 'baht' left over for the 'deserving ones' left behind..........

In the US we have to many like this guy........... 30 years of not working or carrying 'his own' load ............

Let's hope, as a paraplegic, you are looking after your own 'Future' as this guy failed to do......... 'Salt away some money' - lots of it............ Have hospital Insurance -- Don't leave your wife responsible for a 'Heavy Debt' as this guy has done............... and 'god bless you' if you are one of the 'Good Ones' who do...............

They accept class 2 voluntary contributions now, going back 10 years.

I'd get more than you for paying in 20 years, doesn't seem fair. However, I'll be 68 before I'd get it.

How is he selfish?

You have to ask a ridiculous question like that?

He is selfish because he has a wife and child, and has made no provision for them for the future, that in my book is SELFISH.

I read to page 8, than i fast forward it to here.

Is UK social security that bad?

For the family's sake, why not go back WITH his son to get doctors attention. As there is a child involved sure social security will provide with some housing and finance. And than start the process of getting the mother over based on here son living in UK.

Doing so I think his family will get better of if he (God forbid) passes away.

Pls, it's not bashing with "go home" stuff, but a plan to help his family (and himself).

When he gets beter, than the family can decide if they want to go back or stay. After 2-3 years (depending on local country laws, some have 5 years) his wife gets a permanent permit to stay.

Now he have secured his families future. However, not financially but nevertheless with a ticket to stay in Europe if they wish.

Couple of years ago my ego was so strong wanting to stay in Thailand that I almost put my family in "danger". Luckily i woke up from that illusion b4 it was to late. Sad to see when people don't realize that "game over" is approaching.

Honestly, while we still are in god health, it's not that hard to ho back to ones home county and make a few bucks. Why wait till it's too late.

If he was alone I wouldn't care less about his choices, but he have a wife and a child to be responsible for.

I can understand the feeling of being "a loser" by retreating back home, but hey. I'm back in Thailand and stronger than ever :). No shame in that.

How can he obtain a visa and residence for wife and kid without financial backup. Have a look at British immigration rules.

His son is probably British, so doesn't need a VISA.

And once in the UK, as the old fellow his ill, he can get his Thai wife into the UK bypassing all the financial regulations.

yada, yada, if you do't want to help then just shut up about it... of course you want to do a bit of virtue signalling though.

Some people get down on their luck because of different circumstances.

Why should he shut up about it, what are forums for? People get down for all sorts of reasons mostly through their lifestyles. But that does not apply to this poster.

He may not be selfish today, as he lies in his hospital bed, but during his 'Productive years' it is plain to see that he thought to 'only enjoy' money available and 'spend it'............ when you have somebody 'dependant on you' and you don't plan for their future........... THEN YOU ARE (WERE) SELFISH...............

Thanx!

That was my plan, maybe I wrote it easy to misunderstand.

This is the reason to go with his son

Why worry if other people want to give him money, up to them, you just sound mean.

Yeah. I am mean, when it comes to western men who don't prepare themselves.

Someone working who doesnt get paid for FIVE MONTHS !!!!

Please, alarm bells would or should be ringing after a month.

No sympathy for this bloke.

The wife and child, yes, i feel for them. Because they have this bloated oxygen thief kickin back waiting for the bleeding hearts of this world to provide him with free money.

Work and prepare yourself like the rest of us . Pretty simple really....

Most of the world views children as an asset to work cheap and provide for them in their old age.

Your world view is very recent (last 100 years), and only used by white men.

I would consider your world view to be the one in error (providing free stuff for other people), as it has brought about feminism, the death of the white man in his own country and the imminent destruction of the western world.

Hatred of (fellow) white men ............. must be a name for that?

Liberal? SJW? Socialist?

Something along those lines.
