Space is generally not an issue, weight is.

Depends on the luggage scale used by AirAsia.

If you encounter the luggage scale in the pic below at check in counter or boarding gates, your carry on luggage will need to fit into the guide rails.

Those boarding pass machines look fantastic. Does it mean there's now ques nowadays then?

No queues if you have cabin only baggage. Just the same a on line check in. Once you have your check in card,albeit printed on paper you go straight to departures.
