Where would we be without gofundme?

I competely believe the women - every day when I'm out for a walk I find money strewn around the streets. It's amazing!

And winning lottery tickets too.

$50,000 for an attorney? Seriously? That is about 1.6 Million baht. A decent lawyer should cost no more than 2-300,000 for the pair of them. What is the rest for? A fat luxurious holiday whi

Has there been any actual confirmation of their arrests from the police?

Sometimes wonder if these fund me things are just set up, I find it strange that none of the Thai media are reporting it, the police usually love to gloat in cases like this.

Two wholesome looking American girls something does just not ring true with this storey. How much money are they tying to pass off 2 dollars or hundreds? There will be money back from the gofundme page for sure 50.000 dollars for a lawyer I think not .I have been coming here 30 years and have never found a penny in the Street.I think they put it there.

.. In charity, i guess, well, does that include Bars and damsels in distress ?

..But, that's off topic, i am more curious to understand why everybody here find unbelievable the girl's statement, that the money was found on the pavement.

Although it may sound like a good excuse, i don't see any reason to doubt their innocence.

No matter what happened they are definitely not innocent.

Either they knowingly tried to exchange fake money, or they found someone else's money and decided to steal it. Finding money on the street doesn't mean it's yours.

Sounds like a con job to me. Problem is with people abusing these 'go fund' schemes is that genuine cases of people in strife will start to be overlooked, as bimbos like these two abuse it, whether or not this is even legit.

totally reasonable.... not

That is quite believable  , they may have been to Cambodia , found the fakes $'s and decided to take them to Thailand and try to change them to Baht .

Yes, a stupid thing to do, thinking that they would get away with it , but, some people are naive

I don’t doubt their story, just their honesty.

No idea what you are saying in your first paragraph.

“To anyone who has met these two beautiful girls (you) know what kind of people they are. Each of them embody light,” reads the the Gofund me page.

Personally I don't think they embody light, they look more like medium to me, if you're talking weight class...

Would you also do that if you were completely broke?

Yes.

And yes, that resolve was tested when I was much younger and an awful lot poorer.

Odd huh.

American women find fake American money on the street in Thailand. Just happened to be American cash not Thai, Russian, Chinese etc.

I  quess american's find American money on the street other countries probably only find their countries fake money on the street also.

Appears some people have no pride will ask for money for anything. And apparently way more than they even need. Make cash from a crime seems to be the standard now

Like you I asked the same question and like you I'm still waiting for the answer.

Until then I'm leaning towards a scam going on.

Good question.

I have no sympathy for these girls who transported (stories keep changing) counterfeit money (Chinese spirit notes?)  from Cambodia to Thailand and hoped to cash in on their little caper. They're taking a s**t-kicking on the 100K scamme page and disbelief running 50/50 on the 50K page.

It's also interesting how quickly the scamme page was set up after the news, not just one but two, both with vastly inflated fund goals (thanks darksidedog for insider info).

From their facebook:

While traveling around the area, they found one-thousand American dollars on the side of the road and thought it was good karma after having had a hard time finding an available hostel or bungalow.

Nice to see little angels that have body piercing. All angels have piercing right. I wonder where she has tats.

"Theft by finding" - similar law in most countries when you don't make an effort to locate the owner.  Normal procedure is to go to the police - if it's not claimed within a certain time then the fake money is yours and further questions would be asked.  Who said all crooks look like Jack The Ripper?

I hope their locked up for a long time

Oh, come on, trying to pass some fake notes is hardly the crime of the century. They definitely deserve some punishment, but they aren't serial killers.

I consider this news as fake news.

I  question why they both got arrested. Did both try to sell fake money. Why would they both need to sell the money? Sounds more likely to me they both had their own stash of fake money to sell.brought with them.

To launder i think is the operative word here!

i found some fake currency on the road in cambodia

a few years ago.  was cycling thru koh kong near the

casino, found a dozen $100 bills in the gutter.

thought it was some chinese funeral money.  never

thought about trying to exchange it.....

It’s not exactly like shop lifting something that costs $5000 baht or so either. I think it’s much more serious than that and deserves a BIG punishment.  Why would these two wonderful girls not have quite a lot of money to pay their one month trip in Thailand,  and if they “ found” some USD just bring it back home with them and spend it instead of trying to exchange it right away?  Sorry if I found USD dollars on the street here in Thailand I would think there is a 99% chance it was fake.

If they are even bigger scammers these 50k and 100k go fund me pages could be just to get even more $$$$ maybe even the police are in on it. Really many scams have had fund me help already and people are becoming more and more clever to raise money!

I just read a handful of Universities in New England cost 70k per year!  How are students going to pay their debts after graduation??? Maybe go fund me, yah that will do it!!  I smell a big fish here!

What do you consider BIG, 20 years, 10?

It's fraud. What if everyone went around passing off fake notes? You wouldn't like getting a dodgy note in your change.

Didn't I say they deserve to be punished? Some here would have them drawn and quartered.
