SantiSuk
Good news if Hummel is not playing in addition to Reus and a few others identified by NewPix (I'll drop by Peppers tomorrow fellah and say hello whatever the result, now I know who you are! Kein Problem if you are not around). Debuchey out, Monreal injured and Chambers only 50/50 with tonsilitis. Looks like Gibbs has to play 90 off the injury list then and, unless Flam can play RB it's a baptism of fire for Bellerin (yes - I know he has played the Milk Cup or something similar). Arsene gets his som nam na moment earlier in the season than I expected (som nam na, because most of us were calling for one or both of another centre-back or DMF in the transfer window) I wonder who is feeling the strain after Saturday's humdinger at the Emirates. Presumably Cazorla gets onto the sheet for his energy and tracking back to help out a depeleted defence - who he swaps with is probably more a function of fitness than energy levels. Hate to say it but on form he should probably replace Ozil or even Ramsey, neither of whom have done enough so far this season. Ozil will presumably be fit though (his style is not high energy!) and he would relish an outing at Dortmund. His mentality appears a little fragile and a dropping form this game may be counterproductive long term. Jack plays best (ie advanced) when he has a BTB behind him, like Ramsey played on Saturday. I hope Arteta is a fit starter. Yes I know we have a good record at Dortmund in the CL (won last year/drew previous year) and a good record generally away at this stage of the competition. Given the lack of recovery time from Saturday I'd take a draw. Don't like to wish for 0-0 s and Arsenal never play for draws so I'll predict 1-1. Have to beat them at home this year to avoid the biggest teams in the knock-outs Experience/temperament for a European game is crucial, so I would not play Bellerin or a half fit Chambers. I'll punt on Ramsey being 'rested' and go for Szezsney (one more soft hand like Saturday and it's hello Ospina!) Flamini/Mertesacker/Koscielny/Gibbs Arteta Cazorla/Wilshere/Ozil Wellbeck/Sanchez Ramsey/Pod/Ox as the key subs who would get at least 30 minutes. I just wonder whether Wenger will play a slightly weaker side than this and risk a loss in order not to overplay one or two players like Sanchez and Wilshere. We should be a banker to qualify at least second in the group. I have a feeling that he is a realist/businessman like Pelligrini - more important to focus on getting into the top three of EPL than to get into the last 8 of the CL. Once past the group stages everything is a crap shoot after all (as the Americans say). Noticeably, he has not been issuing the 'critical importance' briefings like he sometimes does. SantiSuk
Why would I have doubted that Arsene would go for youth before experience? Bellerin is waiting to start if Chambers cannot. Quoth Arsene "His transition game is fantastic. He's very quick and his final ball is good as well. He lacks a bit of experience as a defender, but he's very dangerous going forward. Another Arsenal defender who's a great football prospect, but just a bit questionable at defending? Bould must tear his hair out sometimes. {But Flamini as a full back was always a bit of a long shot - probably would be sent off in the first 10 minutes! Chicog
Bellerin has unbelievable pace, and that means that, unlike Monreal or Sagna, he can get back even if a player does get past him. I wouldn't be too concerned if he plays, although I'd prefer it if Chambers gets over his tonsilitis.

Not sure where the poor chap will get his puff from tonight. image.jpg I'm sure Dortmund will make an exception and allow him to have a smoke before the match By the way, latest report I heard was that Kagawa starting was also questionable. He had some muscle problems up until yesterday. They were going to decide in the morning, after the final training ( European time ) if he can play. From the sounds of it, it wasnt too serious and just adding a bit of fire for the rumor mill....I'm sure he'll be in the starting line up.

SantiSuk
Dortmund rampant first half and deserve their one goal lead. Not looking good for Arsenal. NiwPix
Wow. Was surprised how "easy" it seemed. Something was terribly wrong with your passing game. It seemed as most of the Arsenal Team played together for the first time. But it's just the beginning of the season. Lets see how it goes when we're London in late November. How come Podolski is always on the Bench????? Is he not performing well? I always valued him as a better player than Ozil. The other Group Match ended in a 1:1 Draw....good

A 2-0 defeat massively flattered Arsenal last night, but to be fair, that injury ravaged Dortmund side were very good! Thoroughly good entertainment though. SantiSuk
This season Arsene is going to have to learn the lessons of last season and of the match last night. Squad rotation does not mean playing 5 different players in the FA Cup and a few more than that in the Milk Cup. It should also apply to the Premier/Champions League team - even though it is tempting to always pick the best on paper players for every match. Otherwise injuries and tired failures like last might are going to mount.

None of them were sitters IMO. Early days - he was not the main master of our destruction. Too early for Arteta to come back and continued serial spluttering from Ozil and Ramsey mostly to blame. Left the defence unnecessarily exposed and could not feed the front men sufficiently. Our leader's stubborn insistence on only buying quality and not being pragamatic (two defenders bought and 3 sold = net loss of 1 from an already under-resourced base) is going to haunt us until January, when Arsene simply has to get real about that DMF position. As managers get older those traits of old men creep in - we saw it with Fergie and now we are seeing it with Le Prof.

They looked like winning traits to me. (i might add he was doing a very nice tactical job on Madrid in the CL until that tool Nani went and got himself sent off.) Your support for his talent continuing into old age seem a tad inconsistent with all your postings rubbishing (correctly) the Man U team he left behind He could take a group of players by the scruff of the neck and literally inform them they were going to win! That side had no business winning the league by eleven points. That was a truly great manager at his best. The mistake imho was not charging him with starting the transition. He should have then handed over and retired whilst everything was already in motion. Thats my opinion. Anyway, bact to all things Ozil. He had another anonymous night i thought. Doesn't track back either which he was needed to do. Chicog seems to think he does his bit but we all know thats blinkered thinking. How long before has to make one of two decisions. Either play him in his favored no10 role or simply bench him?
