Unwanted Visitor

Featured Replies

I have an unwanted night time visitor. The problem starts about 8pm every night, I will call it a Gekko for description rightly or wrong.

I’m early to bed early to rise so this is incredibly annoying, starts with a rasping sound and then five or six loud bursts of what sounds like the cry gekko, shuts up for twenty minutes then repeats this until first light.

My sister in law has tried finding it at night but no luck, I have seen it creeping across a window illuminated by a light at night.

The beast must be in the region of 12 to 18 inches in length, I also understand that this is a delicacy to Vietnamese people. Tried Google for information but no luck, any idea what it is and how to rid it from my garden. This all happens outside my bedroom window so really disturbing my sleep.

There's been many threads about Tokays.

You really should use the search function to find out more.

Your house guest is, I'm sure, a Tokay, the world's largest Gecko. Yours is a male. I know that because the ''takoo, takoo'' call that you hear is its mating call. Fortunately, they have a limited mating season so your peace will soon be restored.

They are very difficult to catch and remove, because they can hide away where you can never reach, besides which if you did manage to remove it, you will simply create a vacancy for another. They are territorial.

I've had them in and around the house now for nearly 4 years and just learned to live with them.

In fact, I've made a recent discovery. They're good mousers. I saw mine with one in its mouth just a few days ago.
