ISOC Spokesman says Thai Niyom Yang Yuen not a campaigning tool

BANGKOK, 8th March 2018 (NNT) – The spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) has confirmed that the Thai Niyom Yang Yuen project is not a political campaign by the current administration, but was in fact created to hear about issues being faced by citizens.

ISOC Spokesman Maj Gen Peerawat Saengthong said today that the Thai Niyom Yang Yuen project has progressed by 50 percent with officials having visited 81,064 villages in 7,463 sub-districts, meeting 3 million citizens. He explained that the project is an extension of the Pracharat project.

So far, discussions with members of the public have raised issues that can be divided into four categories: narcotics, economics pertaining to income and work, infrastructure development and environmental issues.

On protecting against corruption in the project, Maj Gen Peerawat said no indications of graft have been seen despite the project’s high visibility among the public. He gave an assurance nevertheless, that any suspicions of misconduct can be reported to Damrongtham Centers.

Of course it is not a campaigning tool. It is a 300 million baht free money hand out tool to buy popularity among the poor. If votes come as a result that is purely co-incidental.

This technique has been used by others in the past and has been found tried and proven.

Why is an army organization even involved and requires a major general to explain the civilian program? This would seem to be an abuse of military resources being engaged in nonmilitary matters - to hear about issues being faced by citizens.

Called self-certification. And if somehow NACC is petitioned to investigate, it will rely entirely on ISOC's representations and assurances. So much for NCPO reform for transparency and accountability.
