Medics rushed to a location in Nong Prue, Pattaya, on Tuesday where they found a young Chinese tourist with a leg wound lying in a pool of blood.

He was taken to hospital after first aid was administered by Sawang Boriboon Muang Pattaya rescue staff.

Pattaya News quoted people at the restaurant nearby who said they saw the man and his Thai girlfriend - both aged about 20 - sitting down near the shop.

Suddenly there was screaming and the people in the restaurant rushed out. They said that the Chinese man had taken a cutter to his own right leg and self-harmed.

The Thai woman was crying next to the victim.

No mention was made of police involvement in the incident.

Pattaya News surmised that the Chinese man was "noi jai" (upset) with his girlfriend.

He harms himself at the thought of loosing her and she returns to him holding his hand in suffering, its Romeo and Juliet played out on the indifferent  streets of pattaya.  I hope this couple stay together for life.

Here's one of the best from China's one-child policy. At least, he didn't hold the knife at a passing kids neck for that typical hostage drama favoured by the locals.

He should be accountable to clean up the mess and pay all costs associated with coming to his aid.

Not a bad idea.  Forced personal accountability would be fantastic.

Case in point: Last week I was a small Aussie pub and a patron (had been drinking there for at least 6 hours) went to leave.  Patron paid the bill, stumbled onto the walkway and laid facing up.

Apparently could not move and did not speak, the old playing possum-feel sorry for me trick.

The local rescue crew (x3 EMT) arrived and offered transport.

The drunken patron slowly arose and walked to the truck with assistance.

When advised the journey to the hospital would cost money, the patron magically was cured and walked off to go home.
