Koh Chang proposes Reverse Osmosis to control water shortage

Deputy Chief of Koh Chang (เกาะช้าง) Sub-district has proposed to use Reverse Osmosis (RO), a system used to distil sea water to fresh water, to control water shortage.

Mr. Sakprasert Chareonprasit (ศักดิ์ประเสริฐ เจริญประสิทธิ), Deputy Chief of Koh Chang Sub-district, revealed that Chang Island will face water shortage from January-May every year. Five-star hotels and resorts will not encounter water shortages as they have their own underground water pumps. However, small hotels and resorts have to buy fresh water.

As for the long-term plan to prevent water shortage, reservoirs will be constructed on the island and RO system is expected to be installed.

There is a big desalination plant being built just south of Perth. There is great concern locally about the return of super saline water back to the bay it is in, and that the state government are keeping secret the cost of the large amounts of power the plant is going to use.

Will Ko Chang be able to supply the power and the surrounding waterways be able to disperse the effluent from the plant?
