ASEAN-Australia leaders to discuss terrorism, cyber security in special summit

BANGKOK, 16th March 2018 (NNT) – The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, is scheduled to attend the ASEAN - Australia Special Summit in Sydney, Australia, on March 17th and 18th, 2018.

The Deputy Government Spokesman, Lt. Gen. Weerachon Sukhontapatipak, said topics of discussion at the summit will include cooperation against international terrorism and cyber security. He said the summit will focus on strengthening ties between ASEAN countries and Australia, which will lead to concrete and creative cooperation in economic and security areas.

Lt. Gen. Weerachon said Thailand will be proposing its solution to prevent international crimes through development and the solving of social inequalities which must start by looking at the root of problems, promoting the connections between the public and leaders, and refraining from using violent actions.

He said Prime Minister Prayut will also be stressing Thailand's development goal towards mutual growth using innovations under the Thailand 4.0 model, which will yield mutual benefits in the ASEAN region. He will also elaborate Thailand's roadmap towards general election in this event.

The Deputy Government Spokesman has added the Thai officials will be signing in the Sydney Declaration promoting cooperation between ASEAN and Australia in all aspects, particularly the three main pillars of the ASEAN Community which are political-security, economic, and socio-cultural communities.

Just avoid

  • any free trade agreements with Thailand until the junta dissolves.
  • any deals between the Thai government and ASEAN private companies without ironclad recourse to default that can't be nullified by Thai courts or Article 44.
  • any loans made to Thailand government by other ASEAN governments without ironclad recourse to default that can't be nullified by Thai courts or Article 44.

Otherwise strengthening ties should be simple.
