I'm no expert, but 1/3 price but you can see everything is less material, even the metal contact points. Perhaps it still conforms to the standards, but sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

I was looking at pictures online, it seems like porsche only offers one type of charger. The wall mount unit is essentially just a pedestal stand that you can mount on the wall and wind your cable up, it still uses the same charger. Did your friend have the charging unit installed professional by the Porsche technicians? Hence its hard wired?
