Maybe the Farang said something he should, not have, but is it funny when a Thai is getting cleaned up the Thai police cannot wait to become involved, and on the last few occasions they are nowhere to be seen, funny that. In a family-friendly place allegedly. Anyway, it took two of them, further proves Thai's don't fight fair

Yes old chum and the Thais will tell you themself, because they were never colonized they are not bound to The Marquess of Queensberry Rules

Thats how many attacks this week reported in Pattaya alone this week??

Dont let it put you off though  - be like Davethailand -  far better to be a no brained sex tourist that will go no matter what the cost than choose another better family friendlier destination!!

A no brained sex tourist?

You don't even know me or anything about me so keep your idiotic comments to yourself!

Because you don't know anything if you are not living there permanently
So 13 years there until 2014 and most of those evenings being on walking st means I don't have a slightest clue What it's like?

Worse stuff goes on in London and it's surrounding boroughs daily so for me I wouldn't let that story stop me from going.

I still have friends and family there also so I still visit.

He was quite lucky as the guys did not really know how to fight. Alot of these beatings end up much worse.  The first attacker almost knocked himself to the ground on a couple of occasions with wild handbags at dawn haymakers.

Yes, one of them couldn't throw a  punch without falling over, the other was only brave enough to administer kicks to the head while the guy was down. Happy to see the foreigner brush it off and walk away.

lots of fight experts on here that seem to think they would be very professional and perfect during a street altercation...they must get no nerves or adrenalin and perform like  cool champion boxers at all times, what a load of bullshit!!...cmon these guys were hyped up and it all ended ok for all..no one seriously hurt ,the thai guy sells cds and doesnt claim to be a fighting expert,he was angry and tried to elbow the farang mostly and his mate joined in..if you think you could or usually do better than this then lets see the video of your latest street fight with you performing so good..most street fight are very similar to this and  most involve alcohol so what do you expect to see??!!!

Like me.  I'd scream like a scalded bitch and start biting like a rabid soi dog.  It's all about the psychological advantage. 555

If one is stupid enough to provoke it or get involved, go for it....

A huge number of attacks on foreigners in Thailand are not provoked…Gangs of Thais sometimes see foreigners as easy prey because they know NO ONE will stand up for them -least of all the Police force!!

Oh, the innocence. :passifier:

Says it all, yes. Says that davethailand, former owner of a notable Walking Street institution, knows a helluva lot more about the matter than you'll ever imagine.

Now that all has been said, are you done?

Nonsense and fear-mongering that deserves deletion.

So basically you have no idea about Walking Street because you haven't been there in 9 years.

Here's a little update. At least 90% (a guess - could be less, could be more) of foot traffic on Walking Street is made up of foreign tourists that are not involved in the sex industry at all. Reading the bright neon signs is as close as they get. Things have changed a lot over the years because a large percentage of tourists in Pattaya are "real tourists", not sex-tourists.

no it doesn't deserve deletion at all because these kinds of attacks seem to  be more frequent.

of course such facts are an inconvenient truth to you

That Frenchman doesn't have a clue what happened. He certainly doesn't look like the recipient of a beatdown by 5 Thais.

It was nice to see someone in the Soi 9 Police Station tending to his wounds though. I've seen a bleeding guy in there offered no more assistance than a bottle of water to drink.

Gibbs; Rule #9: Never go anywhere without a knife.

... Rule #10  Be prepared to use it.

Rule #11  Know the consequences (to you) of using it.

Note that you've changed the points to which I replied, your usual form specious argument. "Seem to be more frequent" isn't what the poster said. Coming up w/ one questionable example in which the victim, or pugilist, can't remember what happened doesn't prove your point at all, of course. It's rather like the closing of the New Zealand Ice Cream shop (which wasn't a shop but a counter) didn't in fact indicate any "trend." "Thugs are taking over, increasing number of attacks" was being screamed two decades ago. Same old thing.

So to repeat for you,

1. There aren't a "huge" number of attacks on foreigners, esp in relation to their increased numbers; there are likely far fewer, percentage-wise, than ever. SHOCK.

2. There aren't a huge number of "unprovoked" attacks on foreigners; on the contrary, most were either provoked or may have been provoked (your definition of provocation isn't the Thai definition, and if Thais had done the same, they'd also have been attacked).

3. Gangs of Thais don't sometimes see foreigners as easy prey, except perhaps for a group of ladyboys sometimes. Thais might also see Thais as easy prey if they act stupidly.

4. Gangs of Thais don't know that NO ONE will stand up for them, as police do make an effort to find culprits and surprisingly do usually find them; and they're punished, but Thai punishment tends to be in general a lot lighter than it would be in the West--different standards even extending to the Royal Pardon; and it's the same with Thai-on-Thai offenses, as regularly decried here;

5. Groups of ladyboys see foreigners as possibly easy prey, because tourists are after all so stupid; but then again the tourists may repel the ladyboys (or vendors) too aggressively and then the fight's on. Many posters who've lived here a long time have encountered countless vendors and ladyboys but attest they've had no problem--in fact, I'm one myself; joked recently w/ Viagra street vendor that I'm not having any problems yet and got a laugh as he congratulated me on being "strong." I note my my watch is genuine and glows in the dark and get agreement. Etc.

6. The foreigners involved physical confrontations never seem like modest, unassuming, polite, culturally aware sorts who would be exercising due caution in a raucous bar zone in a Third World country. On the contrary.

So again: nonsense and fear-mongering that really should be deleted.

Sex tourists. It's now more a club,  dance,  disco,  restaurant and tourist attraction. Before you have opinions on a subject you should familiarize yourself with the subject. Otherwise your viewpoint has no value. You will see nothing on WS that you won't see on a beach. Infortunately the, same goes for inside, the GoGo bars.  Girls in Bikinis. You see see more nudity on a, European beach. You have never been there so you no nothing. It's virtually a, family outing now. Are you another feminist or evangelical extremist?

Another daft comment, you clearly don't know what your talking about.

I had a live music venue maybe 20m from Walking st from 2002 until 2014 when I closed it down so yes most of my nights were on Walking st.

You can joke around with them all , ladyboys , watch sellers etc . A smile and a friendly attitude always work in Thailand.

The ones who get in trouble are the drunk and acting like idiots when they are guests in this country .

Then why are they in Walking Street? - is it the fine cuisine and the panoramic views..please do us all a favour!!

True. A polite response goes a long way here. An impolite reaction can get you in trouble.
