PHUKET: The Chief of the Hat Nopparat- Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park Worapot Lomlim has today confirmed to The Phuket News the closure of Maya Bay to any visitors during a four-month period this year from June 1 to September 30.

Mr Worapot told The Phuket News today (Mar 30), “After the most recent meeting of the marine national park consultation committee on Wednesday (Mar 28), it was agreed that Maya Bay will be closed to all visitor access during the monsoon period for four months.

“There were several meetings about this, on Mar 1, Mar 22 and then Mar 28 to discuss the possibility of closure to allow the reef and marine environment to recover. At the most recent meeting on Mar 28 it was finalised,” he said.

You need like 4 years to even begin the recovery of marine life anywhere,

and without mincing words, the main culprits of this situation are non other than the locals whom for the sake of profits forgo most of the basics of marine preservertions....

Well, it's better than nothing, I suppose, but with this ethos of encouraging mass tourism for short term gain the outlook for Thailand as a whole is pretty dire - Mene, Mene,Tekel, Upharsin; sticking plaster solutions just aren't gonna hack it.

Lets see if the 4 months ban holds....my guess would be that after much protesting from the boat and travel people after incomes are decimated, this site will be business as usual!

Are these 4 months not considered as low season?  Yeah  I thought so, big hairy deal TAT.

Way to go Thailand!  Job done, just not well done.

There's no low season any more when it comes to Chinese tourists on day tours. The tour operators are going to have to rethink, as they won't want their boats left idle.

They will all head into Losama bay, and let them hike into Maya Bay.

Yes, just transferring the excess boats problem to other bays, also including Pileh Lagoon.
