Mother and daughter die in car after "not wanting to impose" on relatives

Nakorn Sri Thammarat Muang district police were called after a 34 year old Koh Samui woman and her 14 year old daughter were found dead in a car in a coconut orchard.

They appeared to have suffocated after sleeping in their red MG car. It is thought gases entered the passenger compartment of the car killing the pair.

Police were told that Areeya Soparak was taking her daughter Alilada Sae-hoi to visit relatives on the mainland. It is believed that they arrived after midnight and felt "greng jai" about waking up their relatives in the middle of the night.

So they decided not to impose on their folks and sleep in the car until morning.

By that time they were dead.

Medics and forensics staff found no signs of foul play. The mother and daughter had been dead for three hours already by 7.30am when rescue services arrived in the orchard in Pak Phoon sub-district, Muang district.

It appeared they had slept with the engine running, the windows closed and the air-con on. When the engine went off it is thought that gases entered the passenger compartment suffocating the occupants, reported Daily News.

The bodies have been sent for autopsy.

Strange

So their saying it ran out of petrol

If gasses were to enter wouldn't you think it would be under pressure from engine ?

Are these gases heavier then air ?

If breeze or no breeze wouldn't they disperse as to not be in the quantity needed for such a tragedy ?

RIP

Also how would anyone know that they didn't want to disturb their relatives at that time of night after being found in the morning

Very plausible that carbon monoxide caused their deaths.....the AC could have been on fresh air mode, therefore drawing exhaust gasses into the cabin....on recycle mode, with the cabin not pressurised, gas could also ingress.

Where i come from people would normally phone ahead to let relatives know what time they are arriving and arrangements made that suit both parties.   However; quite often here people just seem to turn up without warning, a practice that irks me personally as it can be inconvenient.

RIP those lost.

Can understand, every now & then I get a surprise. Then start to cringe as they may be after something

I also can't understand why they didn't make arrangements or just rock up as half of them don't worry (there always drifting some where )

It's normal the MG cars reject gases inside the passenger compartment.

Many inexpensive hotels in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Why sleep in a car in an orchard ?  Inconvenient and risky.

it's a pity that these thoughtful and respectful persons were killed in that accident :-(

RIP

How could a thought come up to a mother with her daughter to sleep in a coconut orchard? Even if she could not see any hotel, even if her mobile had a flat battery..... Very sad.

Geez.  No one said that they did know, it was believed that was what may have happened.

Seems that it was particularly convenient for them.  Why would it be risky on their own land?

It wasn't just a random coconut orchard, it was theirs, they'd just inherited it.  But even if it wasn't theirs why is a coconut orchard such a bad place to sleep for a few hours, it wasn't the location that killed them.

MG has become a shitty car brand ever since it was sold! Be safe. Just stay away from it at all cost.

Reject gases?? The car can distinguish between car gases and the atmosphere gases?? Not!
