I have been told by an IO outside of Bangkok that I should report to police station with a TM28 whenever I arrive into Thailand within 24 hours? My local police station would be Thonglor in Bangkok for condo I own, has anyone any experience of this, time taken, support docs needed if any etc. Do the police there even know about this immigration law? Do I need to go in person?

My next / first ever visit there will be in June this year.

Thanks

Not sure why he told you to do a TM28 form. In reality it needs to be done within 48 hours if you have stayed in another province more than 24 hours.

Are you sure they don't want a TM30 done.

I don't think many people have tried doing one at a police station in Bangkok. You can only try to do it.

Since u own the condo just download TM 30 from TV or Immigration site and mail it to Immigration when u arrive in BKK. TM 28 not needed unless you change address.

Yes I've owned the condo for 12 years and never done this before but the IO outside Bangkok said its a 5000THB fine if I don't next time. They point to Thai Imm Law Ch8 Sec76 that refers to a 5000THB fine if Ch4 Sec37(2) (the part where I report to police with a TM28 as an alien) isn't complied with. So its a TM28 and not a TM30 the IO is on about. I will try the Police Station next June and see if they know anything about it. Wanted to hear of anyones experiences with this pita!

I didn't know TM30 could be mailed in. Nothing on http://bangkok.immigration.go.th/en/base.php?page=alienstay about mailing procedures (other than it says registered mail is possible?) so no specific address and no idea if the TM30 receipt will be returned as I need the receipt to show the out of Bangkok IO next time to avoid a fine? Could I also do the TM28 at same time using this mailing method? Thai Imm law states the TM28 is needed by all aliens changing address, which I will have done if I just arrive in country as well as home masters who must do the TM30?

Do you have experience of mailing TM30 please? How long does it take, support docs and how long to get receipt in post if at all?

Depends on your local immigration office. When my local office (Maptaput) asked my wife for a completed TM30 as my housemaster, we mailed it in with my next 90-day report. Back came the notification slip (along with that for my 90-day report) a week later in the post, with no problem.

Bangkok immigration seem to be pretty relaxed when it comes to TM.30 reporting, from what I've read on TV, then probably the most relaxed, it seems very few report address apart from 90 day reports, including myself.

When I went to CW immigration a couple of weeks ago to renew my extension of stay based on work, all of the forms were filled in with an address I've never stayed at (this was a 'spurious' address that was used for the initial Bangkok WP and extension because I'd yet to get an address in Bangkok), prior to going for the extension renewal I had recently carried out a 90 day report online, using the address that I do actually stay at in Bangkok.

During the check of all the documents this address discrepancy came out and I was asked to sign a form in Thai, the agent then filled in the 'new' address details, it really didn't seem to be an issue at all.

The form in Thai wasn't a TM30 or TM.28.

I have just returned having been away from Thailand for one month. To comply with the TM 30 requirement I printed previous scanned/stored copies of my previous TM30+plus the associated documents. I hand altered the entry date, TM6 data and passport number (new passport since last leaving Thailand) on the printed/copied forms. Phuket(Patong branch) immigration accepted the forms,  updated their records and gave me a new 90-day report slip. --  Time spent in the office? About 10 minutes.

Yes, in Bangkok several times. Used CW address. Return envelope submitted and receipt received in the mail.

What do you mean?

I mean you worry about following the law far to much in a country that isn't really law abiding.

Take this thread for example, you started off by worrying about a TM28 and are now worrying about a TM30 !!

How many times have you been stopped by the police in Thailand and asked about your visa status ? my guess would be never.

Pretty much the same as everyone else.

You are registered as living in Bangkok and you don't need to report.

Your points might be correct if the above were true as Bangkok IO isn't giving me hassle. I have to report at two different immigration offices (Bangkok and outside) each year for 90 days or to get an extension, so when I walk in there I need to be compliant with the law on TM30 and TM28. The law is being enforced now with TM30 and TM28 by the IO outside Bangkok hence this thread. I've lived here 30 years and notice the IO is asking for this since the past year.

Then just apply online to the Bangkok IO they will have no idea you might be elsewhere.

I do not think you can apply for an extension online. Also, although the TM30 notification can be done by mail, I do not think this is possible for the TM28 form. The Thai law over TM28/TM30 is usually not enforced literally. However, if it is, staying compliant is difficult to say the least.

I suppose I will just mail CW the TM30 and TM28 and see what they return as a receipt if anything?

Anyone know why a TM30 is allowed by mail and a TM28 isn't?
