Three people including the driver were killed when their car rammed into the rear of a trailer truck and rolled over in Songkhla province late Wednesday night, police said.

The accident happened at 11.30pm on the Songkhla-bound Asia highway in Ban Krong E-dam village in Tambon Koh Saba, Thepha district.

Police suspect the car was going at high speed, possibly lost control and hit the rear of the trailer which was on the right lane. The car then rolled over and fell on the road side.

The driver was identified as Nopporn Chuenchoom, 36, while the two passengers have yet to be identified.

And why was the trailer-truck not on the left lane??

The truck driver has admitted not driving on the left (common Thai behavior) but no mention was made if his red tail lights worked. As no-one remains alive from the pick-up the assumption of speeding will go into the record to ease police work.

It was not a pickup.

Without details we can't know.

Thai highways have U-turns, Thai highways have junctions with right turns.

If it's not divided you can even turn right passing the oncoming lane(s) to a company entrance or the like.

If there is no solid yellow line you are allowed to do a turn at any time.

And often they drive on the right because the road condition on the left is just too bad.

Even slower traffic on left lane?

A truck needs almost full width to pass a motorcycle safely.

....

Thai highways are no German autobahns or US freeways.

The 90 km/h limit has its reasons and when driving in the night (which I try to avoid) be even more careful.

Your post contains logic and common sense. But this will not diminish TVF sleuths from theorizing and condemning without facts.

Whatever the cause, another tragedy. Driver 36 years old...oh gee so sad. My condolences to the families.

At least the airbags deployed nicely.
