Songkran: You can sit in the back of pick-ups, but we'll advise against it, says top cop

A leading police spokesmen has told the media that sitting in the back of pick-ups will not be banned this Songkran holiday.

The police will just tell people they really ought not to do it for their own good.

The message came from Maj-Gen Ekkalak Limsangkat at National Police HQ who was speaking ahead of the upcoming holidays when the carnage on the roads is always on everyone's lips.

Meanwhile, unlike last year, it is not sure if free bottles of chicken essence will also be on motorists' lips next week.

In addition the Maj-Gen said that he hoped restricting the number of trucks on the roads would help speed up journey times between Bangkok and Korat. He hoped this would not exceed 5 hours.

At most times of the year the approximately 250 km journey takes about 3 hours.

INN also reported under a "breaking news" banner that insurance would be nullified in accidents where drivers were proven to have been drinking alcohol.

No mention has yet been made of the availability of Brand's Chicken Essence. Some 40,000 bottles were handed out to motorists at checkpoints and rest areas last year.

So much for promoting safety... it was a good idea for that brief instance

the top cop is a yellow-bellied chicken.

I really hope that chicken essence is available, certainly kept the accidents to a minimum last year !!

Let the idiots of society get on with ridding the rest of us from their useless presence.

What utter stupidity!! ... How many lives have to be lost before Gov't & Police get serious about reducing the carnage!!

Or, is it they just give tacit advice, " ought not to do it for their own good!!"

What B/S!!!

Keep the carnage close together.

"You can break the law, but we'll advise you don't"...... [Thailands Top Cop]

...... sums up why Thailands road fatalities are the worst per-capita in the world.

ลารหารูภาสำหรั chicken policemanCouldn't agree more.

Of course the police might try to enforce this law.

Now just imagine the backlash if they did, from people going home or coming back.........

make a law and suspend it on holidays...

"At most times of the year the approximately 250 km journey takes about 3 hours."

Rubbish! That's an average speed of more than 80 kph impossible with a 90 kph limit

So, the LAW, against travelling in the back of pickups can be ignored.

Is it law or not? Who makes these decisions to ignore laws?

They really don't grasp the concept of law and order do they?

Absolute Morons ,,,,,The Law states that No persons can travel in a cargo area of a Ute/Truck ,,,,this Law came out about 30/40 years ago if not more,,One would think that People got used of this  Law by now,,,,  But No this is Thailand .Who gives a shit about the law if the Government don't give a shit. Why have Laws if No one Police the Laws.Gutless government.

People that work for insurance companies must be shaking their heads and laughing.

Well that’s really re. Enforced the Law.  So can every one who has been prosecuted get a refund.

unbelievable, this is the law but dont worry we won't enforce it

That's it! ......Classic Thai style ass covering by top cop. So when the body count comes in he is in the clear. After all, he warned them; what more can he do?

I seriously damaged my back sitting in the back of a pick-up two decades ago. Don't do it.

Songkran advice update for all motorists from Royal Thai Police.......

1 - You do not need to wear a helmet........but we advise against it

2 - You can drive without a license .........but we advise against it

3 - You can ignore road signs .....but we advise against it

4 - You can ignore the Highway code.......but we advise against it.

5 - You can drive overloaded vehicles.......but we advise against it.

6 - You can drive un-serviceable vehicles......but we advise against it

Finally......Rest assured that in the interests of public relations we will not enforce any laws during Songkran, thereby ensuring we do nothing to upset the fragile sensitivities of the general public.

This sums up how useless the law of this country is.
