BANGKOK, 9th April 2018 (NNT) – Measures are in place at airports across Thailand in preparation for an increased number of flights during the annual Songkran Festival.

Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) says six major airports across the nation will see an 11.9% increase in air travel between April 11th and 17th, 2018 compared to the same period last year.

There will be a total of 17,550 flights throughout the festival or around 2,510 flights per day.

The AOT also expects the number of passengers to increase by 14.4% or around 430,700 people a day.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport will be the busiest airport, with more than a thousand flights and nearly 200,000 passengers a day, followed by Don Mueang Airport which is expected to see a surge in the number of passengers of 21.8%.

The AOT said today that security measures will be tightened at all six facilities to ensure passengers’ safety, and response and medical teams will be on standby in case of any emergency.

Time to do your sums. 2510 divided by 6 = 418 flights from each of those 6 airports. Divided by 24 is 17 flights per hour, 24 hours a day, ie one every 4 minutes. Bo..ocks!
