My guess is he timed this for when she was opening up, which might explain how he got access and why a large sum of money (the day's float I would imagine) was unsecured in a backpack.

Absolutely brutal, no excuses.  Should be convicted for attempted murder.  He probably wanted to make sure she would never be able to witness against him.

That's a bit harsh, there is riffraff in every country, they do seem to be in the news a lot though,

she is not out of the woods yet as her condition is critical being in intensive care, hope she comes out of it ok, although I think it will affect her emotionally for quite some time, poor girl.
