shows how little respect thais have for the law, they simply dont care about anyone else and the possibility of killing innocent people while driving drunk, its all about them. If the police actually got off their <deleted> every day  doing what they are paid for enforcing the law this would not be so prevalent, maybe then they will reduce the numbers when these idiots see the police breathalyzing drivers all year round and seizing cars/banning drivers and issuing big fines

38,956 licenses confiscated

It's official, Thailand has the hardest working police force in the world.

And efficient to boot..... All done from intermittently manned check points, sneakily set up at the same high profile locations as last time, where heinous miscreants obligingly stop to be charged with their special misdemeanour. No need to patrol the highways and byways with such acquiescent road users..... minimal fuel use and wear and tear on police vehicles.

As I have stated before, get a lot tougher with the penalties. Drunk driving of private cars, minimum of 1 year suspension and 50,000 bht fine plus 3 months gaol up to 200,00 bht fine, 12 months gaol and lifetime suspension. This applies to motor cycles and cars. For public vehicles automatic 12 months gaol and lifetime suspension regardless of alcholic rating.

That is a totally mad number in just five days. Just checked up and England and Wales total gets 85,000 a year! Some thing very seriously wrong here.

Waddaya figure the numbers were the first year(s) that the UK really started enforcing the DWI laws?  I don't mean just the arrest numbers, but also the number of warnings they issued before they really got tough.

Bad habits die hard.    Once the word gets out that they're actually enforcing the DWI rules, hopefully the numbers will taper off.  That includes the number of DWI wrecks, as well as DWI drivers and DWI arrests.

Hopefully.
