Speeding........nonsense, Inappropriate speed yes, swerving in and out driving to close and generally NOT GIVING A SHIT about anyone else caused this, coming soon  severe speed  limits enforced by camera......welcome to "The West" many roads now are so painfully  slow in their limits here anyway, take Phetkasem road near Hua  Hin 90kph max  ridiculously slow for a straight wide road.

Moronic drivers  hogging the outside lane and even the lorries now doing it along with those boom boom buses and locally the pineapple pick ups overloaded to delirium and they WILL not  move over even on an empty road.

To blame speed per se is just wrong.

Only 26 deaths on the final day of the 7 deadly days. Hard to believe only 26, as there would be a lot of people travelling back home so the traffic volume would be very high. No doubt they were under pressure not to report the real number, as heads would roll...

So 4 provinces didn't have any fatalities during Songkran, utter b?llshit, did everybody in those 4 provinces go everywhere by foot, buffalo or horse n cart?

bad driving is to blame and Thai drivers unable to adhere to rules of the road

Unfortunately, the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

We still have today and tomorrow as Songkran days in Pattaya and Sattahip doesn't celebrate until Friday.  All those that have traveled here from other provinces still have to get home - and rest assured that most of them will not be in any fit state to drive.  Expect more deaths and injuries - that may not even be  added to the official figures because, of course, the 'seven dangerous days' are over!

yes plenty of boxes on back order

Words fail me.

Don't let words fail you  What was said was only a joke by the big cheese. I mean, what else could he say to cover up the incompetence of the authorities? Even if the daily rate had decreased slightly, a battle won is not a war won, anymore than 'One Swallow does not a Summer make' (Aristotle).

.forget the motorways, the shamless lawlessness is too ingrained in this society and will never change and a waste of resources trying to enforce,as the police don't care and thais certainly do not care either, concentrate on inner city speeding , one way wrong ways, and disrespect for perdestrians and keeping our beaches clean...

'The interior minister added that the law alone cannot solve fatal road accidents and more effort needs to be put on raising public awareness about safe driving.'

Then get off your high horse and do it. Only aim to get every single driver up to an acceptable standard - not the Thai variant - get the wrecks (vehicles and drivers) off the road, test every vehicle at three-years old and yearly thereafter, introduce penalties that actually do discourage ignorance of safe driving.

And compel the RTP to enforce the law.

The last will be the challenge.

They still do it, the real amount will be never told to the public. Some people died even few weeks after the accident.

They note at the bottom of the stats that the previous day's figures may not be up to date as people dying following the accidents are not known at the time.  It is evidenced by the numbers from the 1st day and following are adjusted.

Quote

* Please note, all deaths are recorded regardless of whether it happened at the scene of the accident or not. If someone died a few days later in hospital, they are added to the tally.

It may be true for the rest of the year, but certainly not in this case.

It is even more pointless when you consider that it is reported that Thailand ?? has 24,237 Road deaths a year.......66 a day on average..

So probably we will get in few days/weeks a final report????

Interested to know the causes of the other 50%, was it simply just Thai driving?

And what percentage of "the other 50%" was "smartphone zombieism" as it is very common just everywhere else in Thailand? Or motor vehicles in need of psychotherapy "losing control? Or just straightforward, routine "bad karma".
