This is Thailand, thing work different than in the US where it would result in a lawsuit.

 

An older doctor at a rural hospital my wife used to work scolded a patient with every word he knew to tell him to stop smoking now that he had lung cancer. You might not think that is acceptable, but it was his last attempt to save the man's life. He could also just shrug it off and let the guy die, would that be a better way?

Wrong department certainly, but handled in a tactless way.

My GF worked in ER before and for Thais it seems to be quite normal to head to the ER for minor things. Probably this doctor was not OK with it which i can totally understand.

In my understanding of ER this guy did not belong in the ER and the mistake was made by the nurse who sent him in the ER.

But the reaction of the doctor was of course way too harsh, the doctor should have simply instructed a nurse to take him to the OPD.

Why did you not ask the doctor who gave you the note? Or any nurse? Or just wait for your turn? I would never get the idea too jump a queue to talk with a doctor about my treatment.

The OP says that they registered at the hospital, so I'm sure that the people at the registration department have asked him what he came for, and they should have send him to the right department.

I was speaking of transphobic bigots in general. If you happen to identify as a transphobic bigot, that's really a private matter for you to deal with.

People feel free hear to trash entire classes of human beings that they have been conditioned to think are inferior to them. Fair minded, more tolerant better educated people really should call that out.

Sometimes it's hard to do.

Say you're in a social situation and someone starts spouting hate speech against a group. Most people just shut up because they want to fit in, not make waves, even when they don't share the bigoted POV. 

More people SHOULD speak out. Bigotry is an evil in society and silent people help it grow.

Ahh, but here's the issue; the doctor should not have been presented with this case. In properly managed ERs there is a triage process, where the  patients are screened, usually by a nurse. True emergency cases get priority. Other cases, wait. This is a short staffed underfunded facility. It doesn't have the resources to dispense free medical care to foreigners.

 

An ER is not intended to treat non critical care cases.

Come on G.K.  The guyfromanotherforum was making a joke/using a pun.    "ER" sounds like "ER":   Er, um, I mean, it sounds like "ear."  ER; ear:   He could still have been referred courteously to an appropriate outpatient clinic.  I have had bad earache.  An abscess that is about to burst sure feels like an emergency.  If that was it then he has my sympathy.  As a kid I had them several times.  Drs should not use such phraseology at any time of the night.  More hypocritical than Hypocratical..  (another play on words.)

What isn't mentioned and I may only presume (giving the patient the benefit of the doubt) that it possibly happened at night when there are no other doctors or clinics open.

No an ear infection is not life threatening, but if you have ever suffered from some problem late at night and you may only be desperate for pain relief, then there often isn't any other option.

The Doctor is right.This is not an emergency unless he is in serious pain.Go to a clinic cheap Charlie.

A defamation case looms.

 

Quality Iranian tourist shouldn't waste the Emergency Unit's time if his ear hurts a little.

i am aware of the non logic, non thinking, self entitlement pseudo-sophisticated arrogant style of some pattaya style holiday girlfriends. 

 

in thai society theres no lack of looking down and laughing at ladyboys. i can just see the holiday gf feeling slighted because in this case the object of condescension (ladyboy) achieved an admirable and difficult goal in becoming a doctor and for once the tables are turned. i have known several super(b) gay and lesbian doctors and their sexual orientation is a non factor imo.

 

ear infections are unfortunately routinely seen in usa er's except when fast track clinic is available to relieve the load.  severity of problem determines who is seen next. people with stuffed noses and earaches will have to wait until those with more serious problems are stabilized.

 

some complicated ear infections do warrant an er especially an inner ear infection or infection with possible spread to nearby bone or brain.    

 

most ear infections do not need an ent specialist.

 

nowadays you can google ear infection and find treatment and antibiotics and ibuprofen are non prescription in thailand. save time and money

I am not looking to make excuses for the Iranian but surely the blame here lies with the Thai female who took him there.  As a foreigner he wouldn't know the procedure but she should do.  You can go to the hospital as well as a private clinic to be seen for general health issues without going to A&E.

First off before criticizing and judging other people for using improper English maybe you should take your own advice cause judging by what you just wrote your English isn't so great either... secondly English is obviously not the Dr's native language it's Thai so they have a pretty good excuse for not being able to use "perfect English" whats your excuse?
