Big Joke having a big effect on Bangkok transnational crime as thousands of Africans arrested

 

 

Crime-buster Surachet Hakpal has said that police operations to rid the country of trans national criminals has already had a big effect on reducing crime of this sort in Bangkok.

 

He said that in recent months the operations against the illegal activities of foreigners in 1,024 cases have led to 4,000 arrests.

 

Many of those cleared off the streets were selling drugs, skimming or were involved in romance scams defrauding women.

 

Surachet - deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau known as Big Joke in the Thai media - said unashamedly that most of those arrested were dark skinned. 

 

He named Nigeria and Guinea as places where many of the criminals hailed from.

 

Manager reported that DNA was taken from the suspects to help ensure that they would not be able to come back to Thailand after being deported and blacklisted. 

 

Surachet added that many of the suspects that have been arrested had sums like 300-400,000 baht in bank accounts with no explanation of where the money had come from. 

 

Following the ninth leg of an ongoing crackdown he said that all the arrests had helped to see a marked drop in crime of this nature being committed in Bangkok. 

 

The operations of Surachet's TPB force helped by other police departments have been the most widely reported busts in Thailand in the last few months making the deputy chief something of a celebrity figure.

 

He is often seen with a glamorous female cop who acts as helper and translator and who has herself been featured in a Thai media obsessed by good looks, sound bites and high profile public figures.

And after that clean out the crooked cops, the crooked civil servants, the crooked politicians, the crooked judges and the crooked army generals. Then after that the place will look like a ghost town.

I think crime pays. The hours are good, you meet a lot of interesting people, you travel a lot.

But who could ever pick up the niche left in the market?

True story. About two years ago was lying in bed in my modest condo in Ramkamhaeng Rd, BKK. There was a lot of banging and shuffling noises going on in the apartment above. I leapt out of bed and courageously went upstairs to give whoever it was a piece of my mind. Knocked on the door which opened and I peered inside to see about 15 black African faces looking at me. Not a stick of furniture in the unit and they were all sitting around on fully filled black plastic bags. 

They looked as frightened as I did. I said a few gentle words of complaint and bolted while they looked relieved to see me go. Thankfully I never saw them again. Heaven only knows what was in those bags.

It was a rental condo. I moved out about six months later and not because I wanted to. I was very happy while I was there.

Yes my response was to it being rented. Cheap rent attracts dodgy characters as you describe

You pay 5 k rent you get 5k Nigerian renters.

How you want to check that if they return? You can't take a DNA sample of every black person that enters Thailand and the result of a DNA test at entry  takes some time to check. As long as DNA codes are not in passports it's impossible this way. Oh and before somebody  makes a comment about that, I don't think they will use travel-documents with the same name etc.

More good news coming out of my old home. My new home in the Philippines could use a few cops like this guy. I must say one thing that Duterte shut down Boracay and soon charges will be laid against all those who allowed the crap to flow into the ocean. Pattaya is a sewer that will never be cleaned up.

sure, sounds sexy but seemingly not practical; name change, new passport to escape the blacklisting, ok; but what then ? DNA testing at the immigration booths at swampy ? what about all the other entry points ?

this is a good thing.  i'm sure there are some good folks from West Africa residing in Thailand, however, I've not met any.

Do it USA cop style. Shoot first and get lots of blood for testing DNA. ??? Get a match and hey presto he was an illegal.

Unfortunately this racist policeman does not seem to bring these "dark-skinned" people to court to stand trial! I believe that many are just deported! I know of Christian churches in Bangkok which have been raided by the police and at least one pastor arrested and deported even though his paperwork was all in order. Targetting any racial group is never justified! There are good and bad people of every race, colour or creed. Ethnic victimisation is abhorrent and has no place in 21st century! Remember Nazi Germany in the 30's! I am all in favour of arresting criminals and giving them a fair trial, but this should be across the board and include all nationalities.

I agree, but don't let the truth of the ethnicity of those arrested in the present crackdown be the excuse for a lefty PC rant.

As long as it easy for those errant country nationals to get a visa ..... they will keep coming.

Be interesting to see their passports,which border they came in from and which order immigration staff get transferred to new posts in the near future (after checking their income against their wages) !
