Was wondering if anyone knows whether it is only Chaengwattana immigration office that handles extensions of non immigration O to 1 year based on retirement or does the Samut Prakan office also offer this service? Thanks

If you have an address for Samut Prakan you have to apply for the extension at the immigration office there.

If you have a Bangkok address you have to apply at Chaeng Wattana.

thanks for these replies.

in am staying in bangkok in a serviced apartment block but im not sure they are properly registering a tm30 as they dont seem to know they are required to do so.

both the chaenwattana and samut prakan immigration offices are in bangkok, so would not both be acceptable?

in the worst case scenario i may just book a night at a large hotel the day before who i am sure will submit the required tm30.

Is this your first extension? You sound like you have not done this before.

Samut Prakan is different province than Bangkok and they have separate immigration offices. Be sure where your residence is actually located.

it is my first, you are correct

You better go a week early in case you need more documentation. Don't wait till the last day.

They are both in the metropolitan area of Bangkok but they are not the same province. Immigration designates offices by province. You will have to do the application at Chaeng Wattana immigration.

Don't worry about the TM30 form. Chaeng Wattana does not ask for one from individuals.

There are a lot of inexpensive lodging (Bt700-800 per day) in the Chaenwattana Government Complex area. Immigration opens its doors at 8:30am but lines begin to form as early as 6:30am. You can "spot" your place in line with some personal article and get some breakfast on the ground floor.

if i book and stay at a local hotel i guess that becomes the adress i need to put on the extension form, as they would register a TM30 online and this would replace any existing entry?

It appears you missed this post I did earlier.

Even sooner than that would be better IMHO, particularly since he is a first-timer. At Chaengwattana he can apply up to 45 days before his existing permission to stay expires. But at Samut Prakhan, I believe that the earliest he can apply is 30 days beforehand.

Thanks. did see, but still a bit paranoid about this part of the application. Which is why I was considering booking a night in a hotel and using that address instead. Havent decided yet if that would be over kill.

I think it would be overkill.

As I wrote Chaeng Wattana does not ask for the TM30 report when applying for an extension like some other offices do.

I've done 12 extensions on my retirement visa and have never been asked for a TM30. If you have been doing your 90 day reporting immigration already has your address. They will definitely want proof of income.
