A British man strangled his seven year old daughter should have killed himself instead, his traumatised wife has said.

Wealthy antiques dealer Robert Peters, who was having an affair behind his wife’s back, was this week jailed or a minimum of 24 years for strangling his seven year old daughter Sophia at their £1 million home in London.

Following the trial, Sophia’s mother, Thai born Krittaya Peters said she wished her husband had moved in with his mistress then her daughter may still be alive, The Mirror reported.

In a statement, she said: "I couldn't believe Robert killed Sophia, as I thought he loved her so much," she said.

"Since Sophia died, I have been on a rollercoaster of emotions, whilst still trying to stay strong.

"I have been trying to stay positive and calm.

Peters initially admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility but later changed his plea and confessed to murder mid way through the trial at the Old Bailey.

The court heard how the millionaire had throttled Sophia with a dressing gown cord at their home last November.

During the trial it was revealed how Peters had searched online for "serial killers", "treatment of child killers in prison" and "premeditated murder".

It was also revealed how he had recently ended a two and half year affair with a Home Office official he had met online.

Peters, a former Israeli soldier, had a history of depression and had claimed that he was about to go bankrupt, although this was found not to true.

In an audio clip played during the trial, Peters said: “I have been depressed for a long time.

I planned on killing my daughter because I just couldn’t bear going on with life.

“Over the last year I have been slowly going bankrupt.

"Not yet bankrupt, but that’s the way it has been going.

“I haven’t been in control of anything. That was the fact.

"My life was impossible to live.”

He added: “I went into her bedroom and I strangled her.”

Mukul Chawla QC, prosecuting, said: "On the morning of Friday 3 November 2017, this defendant, Robert Peters, killed his seven-year-old daughter, Sophia.

"He killed her by strangling her over a period of several minutes - possibly as long as 20 to 30 minutes - with a dressing gown cord.

"Sophia was approaching the end of her two week half term holiday having started at a new school that term.

"There is no dispute that Mr Peters killed Sophia. The prosecution case is that that killing amounted to murder."

Detective Inspector Helen Rance, of Scotland Yard, said: "The death of a child is something no family should have to go through, but the fact that Sophia Peters died at the hands of her own father makes it truly dreadful.

"Sophia was a loving and much-loved child whose loss has devastated all who knew her from her family through to her school friends and teachers. I hope that the conclusion of the judicial process will be of some comfort to all those so terribly affected by her death."

As the mother said, he should have killed himself. At least he will have to a minimum 24 years, and will hopefully die in there, evil <deleted>. R.I.P. Sophia.

Sorry, not a valid reason for killing your seven year old (as if there could be one), rot in hell.

Doesn´t sound traumatised at all to me. It sounds like a perfectly clear and clever woman making a statement that is as right as it can be.

24 years for killing a 7 year child.

Drug addicts, that cannot help themselves get more than that.

Pathetic.

I hope the prosecutor appeals it.

I can't for the life of me understand why people think this way:blink:
He should have asked for a divorce, then appeared generous by offering the ex-wife three quarters of the wealth for an amicable settlement. He would still have 25% and he would still have his daughter and still have his freedom

I'm not sure if they segregate child murderers from other inmates in British prisons but if they don't then this guy is going to have to watch his back for the rest of his life. What a shame....not!

The behaviour of man is simply beyond comprehension at times.

As CatA child killer on the threes I would say his life will be impossible very quick.

What you state is  what a normal person might propose.   This guy obviously isn't normal  and certainly has mental problems  so I think expecting him to make that kind of rational decision   would have been way beyond his capabilities.

I agree with the Thai mother..

I would suspect that his cell mates will make him their Cell block mistress in prison. He will" squealing like a pig" when his mouth isn't being used.

I suspect you are wrong.

He is an old man who isnt attractive to women other than his money.

Men that way inclined would prefer younger meat .

He'll be locked up in a segregated prison with inmates like him and he'll have his own cell.

Several years from now he will be trustee probably giving art and/or art history lessons.

He is a despicable human being but he will no doubt survive

Thank you so much for unsing your time to inform me of that. They connected that she was traumatised in relation to her comment I quoted.
I stated that her comment didn´t sound like it would be related to a traumatised person like they wanted it to sound like.
Never said that she wasn´t traumatised.

Maybe noe oyu understand better. If not, just don´t bother.

They did not. They simply described her as traumatised. There is nothing in the article to suggest they believed her to be saying what she said because of being traumatised.

He should end his life behind bars!
SHAMEFUL!!!!
Good luck to Sophia's family

And now the wife has all......

RIP

God bless the child. This is a horrible thing for a person to do.

but no amount of money can compensate for the psychological trauma that she will have to endure the rest of her life

No , that's YOUR fantasy .

this sad story reminds me of a scen froma denzel washington movie "man on fire" a young girls father organizes her kidnapping to get ransom insurance money but the pickup goes wrong and then believed the girl is dead. denzel hands the father a pistol and he kills himself

everyone should have a solid premarital agreement. it keeps all parties honest and you wont lose your shirt and get stressed out nor hopefully do crazy things

The Crown Prosecution Service can appeal the sentence if the believe it not to be severe enough.

Although 24 years minimum tariff isn't likely to be considered a weak sentence.
