Watched Last Vegas yesterday, it's like a 'The Hangover' reunion, overall was pretty funny. Great cast on paper.

Should be a sequel in a year or two based on the ending.

I'll give it a 6.5 - the story line was weak but the laughs made up for it..

Saving Mr Banks

The story about the relationship between PL Travers and Walt Disney and the making of the movie Mary Poppins. Thompson players the author Travers, who finally agreesto Disney making a movie of Mary Poppins (after 20 years of Disney trying).

Based on fact, though not actually factual. For me this one slips away at the end. I know other people have found it quite enjoyable though. Stars Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks

5.5/10

Closed Circuit.

A Thriller, of the legal/conspiracy type. Mix in a couple of Lawyers, MI5, a terrorist cell, duplicity, state sponsored murders, paranoia, bad government agency types, justice for the innocent. Who can you trust?, ...all the ingredients are here...It is not quite by the numbers, but follows a known course.

Entertaining enough if you like this sort of thing, which I do

5/10 from me

(This movie has two actors I particularly like: Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall. Rebecca Hall reminds me of an ex and is rather sexy. Eric Bana, I just enjoy his roles. Some of you would know Rebecca Hall from Parade’s End in which she plays one of the main roles.)

The Spectacular Now

I knew almost nothing about this movie. I was a little reticent at first as I thought it might be another coming of age/party time teen movie/finding yourself movie.

Well, it is those things, but it has more depth to it, some small surprises.

7/10 from me

(for those of you who have seen the Wire there is a cameo appearance by one of the regulars)

Have Closed Circuit saved up for my flight back to Australia next week, along with Don Jon and a couple of others that I can't rattle off...

Missus and I watched Last Love last night. Sir Michael Caine plays an American (he should never EVER do this again! Actually if you watch it, you'll hear him slip out of it quite often) and also the intriguingly delicious Clémence Poésy (In Bruges) as well as Gillian Anderson (X Files) a somewhat quirky tale that's awkwardly predictable but enjoyable nonetheless.

6/10

I've just picked up About Time which the wife's been bugging me for weeks to acquire, so that'll be on the box tonight...

Thanks for those. I hadn't heard of ABout Time nor Last Love, but after watching the trailers I've added them to the queue.

Caine's American accent on the trailer was awful..

I have been downloading a few different TV series, as recommended here for my flight the other way next month tongue.png

Patsy's into Feel Good Movies at the moment.

Watched Enough Said, with the late great "Tony Soprano" - i really loved it.

Another one was City Island with Andy Garcia.

Also re watched We're the Millers which was funnier the second time round.

Any suggestions for Feel Good Movies, it's raining here in Geneva and shops are closed. So i am indoors with some stilton and port!!

It doesn't get any better throughout the 90+ mins... Thankfully he slips in and out of it enough to get past it ;)

Just finished About Time, but different to Love Actually, Bridget Jones and Notting Hill but quite a feel good movie - Patsy you might enjoy it, actually given the weather in Geneva it would be perfect.

My only criticism would be Rachel McAdams fringe hahaha...

Worth the bandwidth and the 2hrs on the couch with the wife.

A solid 7/10.

Downloaded a "screener" of "12 Years A Slave".

For those who don't know, the studios send these out to critics etc for evaluation before awards but, often, they find their way onto torrent sites.

Powerful movie; outstanding performances

Good stuff. I'd been waiting for a decent version to come along.

Another to the queue

Not sure if this counts as a 'feel good' flick, but I watched 'The Heat' couple of days ago. Simple on the brain, nothing too much to think about, and as always I find Melissa McCarthy hilarious.

Good triumphs over evil in the end, so thats 'feel good' in my mind.

Just watched "All is Lost" staring Robert Redford.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2017038/?ref_=nv_sr_1

"After a collision with a shipping container at sea, a resourceful sailor finds himself, despite all efforts to the contrary, staring his mortality in the face"

Not a good review from IMBD but I thought it was great. Only one actor and practically no dialog - amazing performance buy RR

Lone Survivor

Starring Mark Wahlberg, tells the story of four Navy SEALs on an ill-fated covert mission to neutralize a high-level Taliban operative who are ambushed by enemy forces in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. Based on The New York Times bestseller. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/lone_survivor/

For myself this was on a par with recent war flicks such as The Hurt Locker and Black Hawk Down. Well worth a watch

8/10 from me

Normally, I can take British TV or leave it, even though I think it is better than most, simply because I am too old for TV, and have been for many years.

However, I turned on YouTube and began to watch an episode of Yes Minister, which surprised and impressed the heck out of me.

If anyone here is from the UK (there may be a few), I would appreciate your thoughts about this one which is called The Whiskey Priest.

Very well done, extremely well done, I thought.

But WHAT does it mean to the audience in the UK?

Do they take these lessons in morality seriously, or are they seeing this as just all ridiculing anyone who still has a conscience in our modern world.

If all TV were like this, no one in AMERICA would watch, which could also be a good thing.

Nice show, and I will try another few to see if they are equally as good.

I think people in the UK saw that as a damning condemnation of government, and it thus contributed in its own small way to the destruction of faith in our civic society, and people's commitment to it, in a way that the Socialist Worker's Party was never able to achieve.

And, this is serious TV that is also humorous.

Really, I wish there were more.

The Fawlty Towers things are also funny, but have less meat.

Maybe, also, the Yes Minister episodes will be too difficult for someone who is not more conversant with the politics of the UK, even though we can still appreciate some of the humor.

Many years ago, we used to look to British film and some TV to see products that were better than much of what we got in the USA.

I have not been watching any TV since 1979, when I recall taking in a Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman before boarding the plane and saying ByeBye to TV for literally years.

Where I was, almost all TV was nonexistent due to martial law, and the blocking of international radio was also practiced.

Once a week, we had Mission Impossible, and that fat man comedian from the UK that was so popular in the 1980s.

Why mention him here.

Mostly undaring sex jokes and sex skits.
