BANGKOK, 7th May 2018 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) intends to bring order to public areas invaded by streets vendors now numbering more than 200 throughout the capital city.

Newly-promoted Deputy Bangkok Governor, Sakoltee Phattiyakul this week handed down policies to officers of the BMA’s City Law Enforcement Department, asking them to employ proactive approaches while making sure that street vendors strictly follow rules and regulations.

At present, there are 232 “leniency zones” across 50 districts where vendors are allowed to sell goods on the footpaths.

The BMMA’s street and pavement reorganization policy seeks to ease traffic congestion and beautify the landscape of the capital city.

The deputy governor also asked city law enforcers to regularly inspect zones where street vending is prohibited and take legal action against violators.

call it what it is, encroachment;  if a serious reduction doesn't happen , then the encroachment will continue to grow, how far out into the streets might it occupy ?

In my soi there are up to 30 vendors encroaching a stretch of 200m causing constant traffic problems. They also dump their waste in the drainage pipes to make sure they are clogged during the rain season causing flooding. Each of the vendors believe they have the right to do so...

essox,,,,,,,, you got it all wrong sorry.pavements are to sell   sell       understand

These "keystone cops" are the ones that try to extort 10,000 Bht from Farang (& only Farang) for

dropping a cigarette butt in the gutter .

But the vendors can with impunity chuck all their fat & food scraps down the waste water drains
