Pattaya police were called to the Diamond Suites Resort and Condominium earlier this morning after a thief (or thieves) removed a safe containing many valuables.

The German occupant of Room 101 in Building C and his family had been out to dinner.

They returned to find the sliding door ajar but no sign of forced entry.

Gone was a lot of gold jewelry such as two one baht weight necklaces, two rings, a bracelet, 1,750 Euros and 66,500 baht.

A handbag was also rifled containing documents and a further 175 Euros.

The German's Thai wife Mayuree Waworachek, 46, said the family were out with their daughter and grandson when the thieves struck.

Mayuree did the obligatory pointing to the space in the bedroom wardrobe previously occupied by the safe.

Police are investigating.

Dont stay on ground floor in Thailand - too easy for all the thieves here

Looks like they entered through one of those simple sliding doors from the pool area.

Not much expertise/force needed to get those open.

Security does not seem to be a strength of this resort.

Not much of their decision.

Surely a standard equipment in such a resort (room safe).

Likely the cheapest of the cheap and fixed with two bolts (or not). Simple crowbar will do the job.

You are like 110% sure to be right. Unfortunately, and that people really want to use to safekeep their valuables in.

No, have to be a detective for that conclusion.

LOL, funny comment in the report, like you need to force a sliding door. Do they make comments like this so that all those with sliding doors can feel a bit safer?

Some strangers walking in from the pool side (I my assumption is correct) at the right time and walking off with the room safe?

Yes, maybe well informed and the guard just by chance had an urgent call of nature :whistling:

In my place, security are the most valuable tip-off-ers for those street gangs...:whistling:

Most hotels do not cover any valuables lost /stolen, safe or no safe.  I try to avoid using hotel safes. I would however lock the safe to make it seem as if I kept my valuables there... In reality they are likely hidden in a pile of clothes, preferably dirty.

I cannot say if this approach works are has any merit, as my hotel room was never burglarized.

Unless you have a Thai girlfriend with a brother, then its no higher than ground floor. I suspect falling from the ground floor is not so bad.............

Or don´t keep your money and valubles at home in a safe. Just like advertising that you have something worth stealing.

what would you suggest?

if they kept all their valuables on them then got mugged and robbed, then people like you would say "they deserved to get mugged" for being so stupid by carrying them around or " why have a room safe and not use it" clearly a no win situation for them

As long as no suspect is caught, let's keep gender equality. The female version would be: "Schweinehündin"

i think the english version 'bitch' works well

There are options:

This safe was a pre-installed safetybox. Everybody knows how easy they are to break and take away. Just foolish to think your money and other valuable things would be safe there. Same like putting them in a shoe box.

The first option can be to invest in a real safe. About minimum 60-80 kg heavy and bolted to the concrete floor. That would have been my solution.

Another option is to safekeep money and valuables in a bank box. The money could just be in the bankaccount and accessable by ATM as usual.

I am sure there are more options too. And, no, I was not that stupid so I would suggest having everything on you wherever you go.

I am actually  They seem to go to the right room. Seem way to easy to get in. A key would have helped lots. Just show a bit of force to try open door then use the key.
