"Fake Thai Smile" garlands girl says sorry for damaging tourism: "It was a hot day!" she tells Big Joke

The two women at the center of a Thai drama of soap opera proportions have apologized to the deputy commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau - and Thai society at large - for letting the country down.

"A" is the young woman who was in traditional Thai attire handing out garlands to Chinese tourists getting on a tour bus. "B" was her colleague who filmed her and posted the video online.

A's smile looked decidedly false and she looked bored doing her job.

The post backfired as Chinese social media seized on the opportunity to have a field day at the expense of "Fake Thai Smiles".

Many videos were made mocking the woman for her miserable face and perfunctory smiles. One even featured a Chinese woman pretending to be Thai handing out bent clothes hangers instead of garlands.

When she gets a wad of money she is thrilled and gives a real smile.

Most Thais online saw the side of the Thai women having to perform their job in the heat of the day repetitively, reported Daily News.

But Chinese social media really stuck the boot in calling "A" a robot.

Yesterday A and B (their real names were not given) met Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal at Don Muang tourist police HQ to apologize for the furor. Surachet id known as Big Joke in the Thai media.

They were accompanied by Thaweesit Choksermwong, 55, owner of Thaweesit Express Co Ltd.

The women were hired out to tour groups by "Jing Jai Photo" - the name implies that photos are genuine and come from the heart.

Their job was to hand out garlands and have souvenir photos of that fabulous Thai smile taken with Chinese visitors.

B apparently posted some disparaging comments online that she regretted after the videos aping her friend's actions went viral. She should never have made the video in the first place but some Chinese started it by aping her friend at the scene. She lost her temper.

A said it was a hot day and she never meant any harm. She apologized for her actions in presenting Thailand in a negative light.

Boss Thaweesit said the women would be given some time off - he said they should be given a chance and not vilified for this mistake.

This is new??  Actually it is news, why on earth is this employee having to or feeling the need to turn up at a police station and apologise to Joke (very apt name) and Thai society at large?

Huh! I can think of a hundred things more damaging to tourism in LOS than some hired person handing out garlands looking bored.  This appears to be a Chinese media thing though, as if they think

This is disgusting.

I will tell you what will stop damaging tourism, how about an elected government and an end to military rule, how about a safe society with a fair and just legal system, how about the abolition of dual pricing, how about pristine beaches not full of garbage? I cold go on but I will be at it all day.

This appears to be a Chinese media thing though, as if they think they are "special" or something.

If anything, the Chinese mass tour groups have done as much to ruin tourism in LOS as anything else.

I got to admit, having just returned from Naklua in North Pattaya for a weeks holiday with the family, the Chinese entourage with bus after bus after bus, really spoilt it for us, i.e. its hard enough getting around Pattaya without all of these bus loads of Chinese, the buses lining up and blocking just about every street, side street and even hotel entrances, they are everywhere.

Pattaya, you won't be seeing the likes of us for a long while's, Phuket was our previous destination for a decade, and the Chinese invasion, still in their PJ's, in 4 star hotels hand picking food from the breakfast buffet and putting the food back, plus pushing in, was enough for us to go off Phuket.

I think Nai Harn in Phuket and Rayong in Pattaya will just have to do for us, away from the Chinese invasion, hoping they stay away from those areas.

Her job is that of a robot, not exactly sticking the boot in anywhere.

Can't blame her, just pretending to be pleasant to a bunch of noisy lunatics who assist to destroy her Country, deficate in the streets and clog up beaches taking a million fake wedding photos.

As much as I detest fake smiles, what on earth are the police doing getting in on the act?

They're an even bigger joke.

Your assumption is incorrect, although most Asian women look younger than they are, but I would say this one is 18-21, perhaps you should make an appointment to see an Optometrist or get your mind out of the gutter, and start mixing it up with more Asian women to know the difference.

A Pervee I am not, although you have stooped to a low level by implying so.

Aha The Chinese are trying to safe their  face by taking a poorly online revenge here for what happened in that Thai Shrimp buffet Restaurant ????.

They expect this Thailady to give 3454 real smiles a day??
