For US if was a business/work related expense it could be a valid deduction. But not for personal reasons.

Taxpayers who are looking for a new job that is in the same line of work may be able to deduct some job-hunting expenses even if no work is found.

But it may not matter even if expenses were related to a job search, ie., cost of visa, travel. Taxpayers can only claim the amount of expenses that is more than 2% of their adjusted gross income. Even then there are other limitations.
