DLT fees for me to transfer used car.

Been asked before im sure. 

Please redirect if needed. 

 

Went to DLT outskirts of Pattaya with the seller and car.

All the paperwork to enable the transfer.

Over the pits in ten minutes.

No problems. 

Seller takes me to an agent straight up. 

Bkk registered car so told it needs new plates. 

Sports model fiesta with black roof and red body. 2013 275,000 baht.

So also told it needs recording in the Blue book. ?? Two colours. 

5200 baht and four to five weeks to do, because it has to go to Bangkok and then to Chonburi aka new plates and location. 

 

Contacted the agent today for updates. 

Still happening she says...

 

Car has first class and compulsory insurance cover and registered until December 2018..

 

All still valid in the original owners name in Bangkok. 

And yes it has the Ford DCT issue.

Which I'm  confident will be rectified at no cost to me.

 

The guy did NOT give me a receipt. 

Was to do. But hasnt.

It looks like he genuinely bought it and struck strife. Needed to sell.

But NEVER put it in his name. 

Several months.

 

I have the car and all keys and paperwork. 

Transfer is happening. 

 

Apart from the seller refusing to return calls and send a receipt. 

Should i be worried ?

 

I was contemplating contacting the police.

But there is no free feed in this for them...

Name and province change for motorbike from BKK to Udon took two trips to the DLT, and a wait of 2 or 3 days in between and did cost something like 500THB (with receipt). A car should not take longer, no idea if the fees are any different, but you can be quite sure the "agent" ripped you off, maybe a friend of the seller.

New to the car rackets here.

Since that i read its like 500 baht for each 100,000 baht value.

Plus the admin fee.

Plus 500 for the black roof. 

New plates?

 

Im sure i was slightly taken.

 

More concerned about the no receipt. 

I have the sellers name and number. 

 

I cannot transfer the insurance cover until i get the new plates and number.

I have a receipt from the agent.

All her details are legit. 

Except for her charges lol.

Final wash up was 11 weeks to finish it.

Including the new plates.

 

The woman doing the transfer has done several for the same guy.

Regardless of what he is nationality wise ,where he is from, or what type of Visa he has. 

Ten transfers through her so far she says.

Business is business to her.

 

No idea where the delay was.

Went from four weeks to 9 weeks, to 11 weeks with the new Chonburi plate wait.

 

Never got a receipt. 

Houdini the car seller is still at large.

On an ED Visa and selling cars too.

 

The police said they had nothing to work on because the name he used was false.

His phone number is changed.

His Facebook account is closed. 

No free feed for the BIB.

But come back if I have more information. 

 

When the car started to play up and the transmission went kaput, it also came to light the speedometer was spun backwards. 

 

We were sucked in well and truly.

The guy is a con man. 

Mark Claud is the last name he used. Pattaya. 

 

More than 60,000 km off the clock according to Ford service history. 

Which makes the ten year extension of transmission warranty invalid. 

Unless the speedometer is corrected. 

Then it's ok.. err.

Car age is fine, just incorrect speedo reading.

 

Its cost 30,000 baht in repairs and about ten days in the garage. 

Still has a transmission noise. 

 

We're not too proud of sharing what's happened. 

In the hope others dont get suckered by him.

 

Still no wiser as to the delay in the transfer. 

 

Oh the insurance is noted as changed ownership. 

Until renewed in November.

Then the new owners name rightly is put on the policy. 

So far its a joint name with the previous original owner. 

 

A few lessons learned.

It would sadly have to be.

 

Trust no one selling a private car.

Just too many con artists in this country. 

 

And count your fingers after shaking hands with a car dealer..

 

It's a mine field for sure.

 

Unfortunately we didn't have anyone to help us, which obviously wasn't a good move.

 

The land of bottom payment and dodgy deals..

I am not sure about car dealer here but my girl friend bought a 2011 Toyota VIOS in 2012 for a reasonable price and mileage. Because of her bad credit she had to pay extra in interest and payment (perfectly OK. Same as in the USA). In 2018, she resold the car and bought a new one. The new car dealer was offering 210,000 baht for more than 120K Km but she advertised and sold it to another dealer for 215K baht. I cannot say the dealer cheated her.
