  • That would be cruel to the neighbours.

  • These dogs are past training.    They are dangerous, chasing people around and need to be destroyed.   Very simple

  • Instead of training the dogs properly and thoroughly - they do this to them.   Yes: it is cruel!

I really do think this is a great idea.

I would give the a few more feet on the leash though

Rubbish.  One of my dogs started chasing 'bikes and samlors, purely 'cos she enjoyed the chase -  i.e. she would never bite anyone.

I easily taught her that this was unacceptable.   But it did take time, patience and  consistency.

She said she was advised to do this by elderly dog experts.

Small change to the content of the bottles and make the locals chase the dogs.

Hang on, you missed a bit...

"She said she was advised to do this by elderly Thai dog experts."

There, that's better...

I see a dog with a brandy keg round her neck, but then she is a St. Bernard !

Excellent solution in my eyes. The dogs are still able to bark and run about, but they no longer have the confidence to bite because of the awkward containers. Good job.

It would have been even better to have trained them right in the first place, but that is not very likely to happen, from what I have seen of village life.

Surely more human than have them chained day and night.

Guard dogs exist and are trained in the West too - but they are generally trained responsibly and properly - not by silly methods like hanging water bottles around the poor dogs' necks! These are not feral (stray) dogs (and thus perhaps have never been exposed to any training), but this woman's 'pets'. Better, more responsible and intelligent training from the get-go would have been in order here.

Be a responsible dog owner:  Build a fence, place your dogs behind the fence, everything within the fence is fair game, dogs don't go outside the fence.  Problem solved.

given these dogs are on a coconut plantation,  where in the article does it indicate that they have proved to be a threat to either children or road users?

they grew fierce and started chasing the locals

Elderly "dog experts"? Some experts.

Yes. It's cruel.

Put a 20 litre water bottle (full) round her neck and see if she likes it

If she ran around biting people that might be appropriate

Me and my children all love dogs," she said.

Especially with a large portion of fries and a few lemon wedges.

Building a fence around a coconut plantation tight enough that dogs can't go through would cost more than the coconut plantation.

no need to intrude on the discussion with logic.

Maybe they wanted to make a Thai version of the Swiss Mountain Rescue St Bernard dogs ?!!

Excuse me for asking, what is the best quite way to put a dog to rest.

I think this is a good idea. Dogs look like they are still happy and the jugs have not affected their ability to bark. I don't understand dog lovers. I can't have anything to do with an animal that doesn't have sense enough to disregard its own feces.

there should be enough water to kill a schizophrenic on a hot day

I rather not be involved, I prefer something like cleaning bleach, detergent in some food.

Of course for annoying Soi dog.

Were these water jugs full of water or empty? By looking at picture the jugs look empty. If empty I would say not cruel. If full I would say cruel.

Brilliant idea. Low cost and effective. That local dog expert is a genius!

Running leads?  No-one here heard of them.

Long wire with bolted down ends and a piece of chain on the wire to the dogs collar, harness is better.
