The National police chief, Chakthip Chaijinda, has urged police nationwide to review their strategy for arresting suspects after a constable-ranked officer was killed in road accident related to a motorcycle chase on Saturday in Kanchanaburi.

Chakthip has asked that police officers perform their duties with caution so as to prevent their deaths or injuries, said police spokesman Pol Colonel Krissana Pattanacharoen.

Krissana was referring to an incident in which Pol Senior Sgt-Major Suchat Chewpreecha, 51, of Tha Maka precinct was killed on duty at 10am on Saturday while on a motorcycle chase of a suspect who was also riding a motorbike. The suspect’s bike lacked a licence plate.

Suchat crashed into an Isuzu sedan and was then crushed by a passing truck. The unnamed truck driver fled the scene but was later apprehended by police.

The Provincial Police Region 7 was in the process of providing the entitled welfare and compensation to Suchat's family as per the regulation, Kissana said.

I have never seen a chase of a vehicle by a Thai law enforcement officer in central and other parts of Bangkok. The closest I've seen was a pillion-seated officer jumped off and gave a foot chase. Usually half a dozen or fewer set up a checkpoint and flag cooperative vehicles over. RIP Pol Senior Sgt-Major Suchat Chewpreecha.

Wonder what the police "accident investigation" will show???

Brake failure of course - is there any other plausible cause?

 What a way to go

How many thousands have died from lack of enforcement, including scores of children?  Police take risks everywhere in the world.  That's why they are called "public servants"

stand on any corner and you will see a few scooters with no plates, in no time at all, sad loss of life for no apparent reason,

The number of vehicles cars, trucks or bikes without licence plates never fails to amaze me here.  Back home. NEVER!!!
