Traffic cop blamed in video tussle with Bangkok cabbie

PATTAYA:--An arrogant Bangkok taxi driver caught in a video dispute with a Pattaya traffic cop was brought back to the city to face charges.

Cabbie Prasertporn Petchthong and Pol. Lt. Wasutorn Eimsam-ang were summoned to put the embarrassing social media scandal to rest May 23.

Police originally planned to charge Prasertporn with threatening the life of a police officer, reckless driving, driving without a license and illegal parking following the May 20 incident. In the end, he only paid a fine for illegal parking.

Wasutorn was reprimanded for abusing his position and overzealously pursuing the Bangkok cabbie.

The officer was caught in a minute-long video kicking Prasertporn’s taxi. But the officer said the clip did not show the entire incident, which began when he tried to ticket the cabbie for parking in a red-and-white zone.

The driver refused to get out of the car, would not furnish his driver’s license and verbally abused the officer. When Wasutorn moved to clamp his wheels, the cabbie tried to drive off, nearly hitting him. The officer said he kicked out in fear and anger.

There's no such charge in Pattaya (except for farangs and Bangkok drivers).  There are rows of meterless taximeters parked all along Second road every hour of every day.

Without  a drivers licence which means he has no car insurance which means if you in taxi and he has accident and you get hurt better hope your health insurance is fully paid up. These keystones are a joke can't even stand up for one of their own

The report doesn't actually say that he hasn't got a driving licence, just he refused to produce it when asked to. Could be that when he showed up this time he brought it with him.

In the original story he was reported as saying it was too far to travel from Bangkok to Pattaya to clear it up, presumably something made him change his mind.

I have my own car hence my rage at illegal and condoned parking; clothes drying rigs after dark; companies who 'own' the public road outside their establishments and the hotel next to Immigration who has commandeered six public parking spots.

I also have a car but I use www.grab.com  whenever I have or plan to have any alcohol.

I tend to share some of your complaints but wonder what the heck is "clothes drying rigs after dark".     You mean racks put in the street?       I honestly can't recall having seen that yet if that's what it means.

In 'murcia, the cop would have emptied a clip in him, deservedly so....

Thank you for your interest.  I don't use grab.com as I don't ever drink and drive.  Maybe the clothes drying rigs are peculiar to where I habitually try to park.  They are metal & during the day local (in the vicinity of LK Metro) laundries take over the streets. The rigs are then left empty after dark blocking parking spots..
