Don't know how you got to this conclusion as I was talking about 3-4 incidents from 1994 till now, except for the 1st with was PARTLY my fault all others were not. But just so you know, I'm on the roads daily, from dawn to the early hour of the morning. I guess you'll stay home from now on

It was a joke. In my 36 years here I have been involved in two accidents that I recall and I was not driving.

Typical Thai driving

The lady

1-Too fast for conditions

2-No spatial awareness

3-Should always anticipate that the other driver will do something stupid

4-Too late breaking

Truck driver

1-no spatial awareness and/or failure to use rearview mirror.

.Thai drivers seem to be unable to think analytically about many things and also unable process thought rapidly. They don't seem to be able judge the consequences of the risk they take or maybe don't understand the risk they are taking. Kind of unbelievable considering all the news and videos on the subject of highway deaths

Not sure why the female driver repeats he didnt indicate. Absolutely nothing to do with his reckless driving.

Bang him up as a lesson to others over this "my vehicle is bigger then yours" mentality

Definitely the truck drivers fault, but I do think the woman could have spent less time on the horn and more time braking.  I'm not saying she could have stopped in time, but she doesn't really slow down a great deal either.

I think its the womans fault.

I was taught that its my responsibility to allow 'safe braking distance'.

The trucks manouvre can be seen from a good distance , but the  woman barrels on , then wastes valuable reaction time blowing the horn.

For what purpose ?

So he will scurry  out of her way?

Braking to a crawl would have been far safer than steering into the trucks line..

I only ever see white lines like that when I'm going way too fast... And I'd probable go for the brakes, not the horn first. This always tells me the person has the time to react but not with the right reaction. But having said that, yes, take him to court. You should win.

I'm not sure how he can deny responsibility for that? He clearly hasn't bothered to check his mirrors, or he would have seen it was unsafe to make the turn and from what I can see has used no indicators either. This is exactly the sort of idiot that needs to be removed from the roads, as such stupidity and disrespect for other road users makes him super dangerous.

Have to agree with you there, but I will say this, she was travelling way over any legal speed limit, and in the wet. Me personally, when I see a car/truck/bike on my left, I make sure I have a fair understanding of the drivers attitude, and when I think its safe, pass, two wrongs don't make it right, as the saying goes.

And he totally turns from the wrong lane.  Still this is poor engineering and road design.

Turning from the wrong lane, no indication, doing when unsafe to do so.  Lots of fault with the Truck.  She slows, but she's just an average driver, not some race car specialist.

Drives at the speed of a race car specialist.

No skills to go with the speed.

It’s called multi tasking, using feet and hands at the same time ?

Did you count the seconds between the start of the horn blast and the crunch of impact.

And you are saying you could have done better????????????

Those cameras often lead to a misinterpretation of the actual speed. Often making cars appear to be going much faster than they really are. Not saying it is the case here, but worth a thought.

That thing on the dash indicates when she starts to brake also.  Looks like she's on them at the 31 second mark on the time stamp and makes contact at the 34 second mark.  She hauls the speed down a lot but overbraking probably got her into wheel lockup making it less effective braking then it should have been.

seems she had more than enough time to take a bit more evasive action than she did (actually none by the look of it), it was obvious the truck was changing lanes well ahead of her given enough time to start changing lanes, although it appears she had her foot pretty hard onto the go fast pedal and probably not paying full attention. The truck driver of course is not blameless - looks like no blinkers and he should have been a lot further into the right hand lane well before the turn.

But TIT - it will all be worked out - someone will pay , wai and everything will be sweet.

refer to other driving topics:  driver probably had a license, wasn't speeding, drunk?? maybe not... just driving link a dangerous <deleted> that caused an accident.

and will he be penalized more or worse than a drunk driver who caused no accident or injury ???? Think about that.

Nothing to think about, the mere fact that you are DUI is an offence the law says so, when you have mulled that over a while perhaps the penny will drop

If it does not please dont expect me to attempt to educate you on the matter of drink driving

Funny thing is the cops love to pull this  "he is poor let the insurance pay for it" routine and it gets the haves frustrated and end up calling their insurance companies anyways plus the cops get away with less paperwork and becomes protector/hero of the grassroots man.

& I guess the insurance companies are that stupid as well

Do the REPS make you sign anything - Or could one say up to you but I sign nothing, & if you up my premiums or ect I will leave you

? What would the head office of Thai or Falang Insurance company think if every one ( majority Falang ) was forced to admit liability which would cost them rather then recieving cash from the party at fault

Another stupid attitude of all Thai drivers is that they always thought nothing would happen to them at all therefore they maintain their speed in any situation!

Totally agree

I come down the road from lads school & have to keep a hard right on the line when having to stop (or make the turn ) into the Moo Baan.

As I have to do this approaching within 150 mtrs or so to the Moo Baan, so the cars can pass on my left I have the idiots that are passing motorcycles in the lane coming towards me on the right not slowing or even taking note I have to remain hard right.

There are only inches in it, & I am only waiting for the day that one of them scrapes the entire side of my car

Just a normal day, truck driver turning right from the left lane, no signal nothing.

What have the police done about it?

Nothing, if the woman wants police help, she will have to part with some cash.

Hope more of the media pick up on this and put some pressure on the local keystone mob to do something to prosecute the truck driver.

I take it the headline should read Center Median, not Central Reservation. That said the truck driver should be made to pay double for wasting the courts time.

Overbraking? In a BMW with state of the art ABS?

She should have slammed the brakes as hard as she could. Probably would have stooped before impacting the truck.

The truck driver is at fault. But the lady is also at fault. I have a dash cam in my BMW and my guess is she was doing at least 100 km/h. Maybe even 120 km/h. On a wet road with U-turns. So both at fault. Two moron Thai drivers.

agree 100%

she could have stopped way before the truck, if she just stepped on it.

best option would have been a fairly hard break and go on his left side, IMHO

lacking the skills of  both options I  would recommend the lady not to speed above capability.

When you have been driving here for years you come to expect non standard reckless acts come from every direction and anticipate if you want to stay alive.

Even when i'm driving in Europe these days i still expect the unexpected on the roads...i never cross without looking both ways which makes me look like an idiot because nobody drives against traffic here.

Which shows his stupidity extends beyond his abysmal driving. I am pretty sure the court will blame him for the accident, and he can add court costs on top of the bill. Hopefully the court will ban him for a while too, to consider his recklessness.

Sorry chap - Thai courts don't award court costs...
