Hi, is there any legal way to take 1 milion THB cash out of thailand by air? Including money exchange recip some kind of export licence, any idea?

Posted (edited)

There is no limit on the amount of Thai baht bank notes that may be brought into the country. A person traveling to Vietnam, the People's Republic of China (only Yunnan province) and Thailand's bordering countries is allowed to take out  up to THB 2,000,000. A person traveling to other countries is allowed up to THB 50,000.

Any person bringing into or taking out of Thailand Thai baht bank notes, foreign currency bank notes or negotiable monetary instruments in an aggregate amount exceeding 450,000 Baht or USD 15,000 or its equivalent must declare to a customs officer.

https://www.bot.or.th/English/FinancialMarkets/ForeignExchangeRegulations/FXRegulation/Pages/default.aspx

Foreign Currency

The travelers bringing foreign currency more than USD 20,000 or its equivalent into or out of Thailand are required to make a report to Customs. This report is required by the Ministerial Regulation (No. 25) B.E. 2530 issued under the Authority of the Currency Exchange Control Act B.E. 2485 and relevant regulations.

The Regulation and Notification require that the travelers bringing foreign currency into or out of Thailand, both a bank note and a coin, with the total aggregate value exceeding USD 20,000 or its equivalent, must report it to a Customs officer at a port/airport of entry or exit, using the given Foreign Currency Declaration Form. The travelers must complete, sign, and submit the Form to report their foreign currency where such currency are physically carried by a person arriving in or departing from Thailand, or where they form part of the person s baggage and that person and his or her baggage are being carried on board the same conveyance across the border.

A person who reports currency has to answer truthfully any questions that a border services officer asks about the information required for the report.

Thai Currency
The amount of Thai currency, in a form of banknote or coin, allowed to be brought outside the country shall not exceed 50,000 THB. In the case where Thai currency is carried out to Thailand's boarding countries, Vietnam and Yunnan District of China, the total amount shall not exceed 2,000,000 THB. However, the Thai currency brought out to the said countries in the amount of 450,000-2,000,000 THB. shall be declared to the Customs officers at the Customs checkpoint.

I believe this poster runs a small chain of exchange booths. So not necessarily nefarious.

The OP is talking about specifically taking Thai Baht out of the kingdom. The stipulations are very different and far stricter than for non-Thai currencies.

You have therefore regrettably misunderstood the point of the thread and your comment is irrelevant. Please read threads carefully in future. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest.

Methinks the OP means a 1 mill. equivalent, only the brain dead would do otherwise.

To think of it, the limits were increased recently, now 2 mill. can be exported to southern Chinese provinces plus the limits to neighbouring countries is also increased to I believe, 500k.

You are incorrect, here are the BOT rules on this subject:

"A person traveling to Vietnam, the People's Republic of China (only Yunnan province) and Thailand's bordering countries is allowed to take out  up to THB 2,000,000. A person traveling to other countries is allowed up to THB 50,000".

I think your only legal avenue would be to get 20 people, say, a chinese tour group to take across 50000b each. Pay them a box of Dog flavoured noodles each. Job done.

Other than that, you could commit a small infraction that gets you a short holiday in the monkey house . Stuff 1m in tightly wrapped rolls in your prison wallet and then arrange a transfer to a prison across the border.

You gotta think outside the box. ?

Is the OP trying to say there is some sort of currency arbitrage existing between Thailand and India? That would be the only reason I could think of.
