Parts of Chao Fa West Road will close at night from June 29 to July 28 as the the Chalong Underpass construction staggers along.

A meeting was held yesterday (June 18) at the Phuket Highway Office hosted by Phuket Vice Governor Snith Sriwihok and Phuket Highway Office Chief Somwang Lohanut.

Vice Governor Snith says, “Traffic problems during the peak hours are a big problem around the Chalong Underpass construction zone.

1. Does that mean that the other traffic flow changes have been put on hold?

2. Does this mean that at last they are actually going to work at night?

3. The narrow road near Homepro will remain a narrow road even when the construction is complete. One reason an underpass was and still is a ridiculous concept for this area. There will still be traffic from three other roads using this one lane road.

I hope this means the terrible idea to close the circle itself will not be executed?

More likely this is in order to fix the single lane from circle past Homepro, so that when they eventually do close the circle that single lane can allow for better flow. If they closed the circle now tailbacks would probably stretch back beyond Sai Yuan at peak hours...

Yesterday went to airport & the underpass there had plenty of workers busy with various works all over the site. This morning through Chalong hardly any workers in attendance with most sitting down. Maybe there was a bunch working underground.

Same every morning. I usually pass at around 7:30am and normally there's no one there. Why don't they consider working when it's a bit cooler? Italian Thai might have a *&^% as an owner but at least they get the job done more efficiently than the useless mob at Chalong and previously Tesco.

Drove through from Rawai at noon.  Traffic backed up to Fisherman's Way.

Drove back opposite way at 1.30PM.  Traffic from Rawai backed up to Fisherman's Way 2.

Not a single labourer or manned vehicle on either occasion.  No work being done.  Complete joke, and at this rate they'll never finish.
