Many specialised hair dressing saloons in Bangkok, have obviously been trained abroad and are now trying to cheat customers in applying the same prices as in foreign countries.

Not thhe first time I hear of this new cheating trend.

This is just another cheating issue..the Bangkok hair saloons not only cheat the Thai's but naturally also double cheat the farang customers.

So if you can, just get all your hair treatments done abroad and for the basic haircut, chose the saloon wisely when in Bangkok.

Another issue of greedy service providers in Thailand who will ultimately just loose customers and their business.

Real hair extensions with quality human hair (Indian hair) is incredibly expensive.

Watch the Chris Rock documentary, Good Hair. African American women are furious

that he exposed their secret. It really is well worth the watch.

Ask the price upfront

Common sense

She should count herself lucky.

My scalp hair hasn't extended in over 30 years.  And a lot of the Thai women I see are getting pretty thin in a lot of spots.  Seems to be more prevalent in Thailand than in China, or back home.  Is that a real thing? Or am I imagining that more Thai women lose a lot of their hair?

I think you are right ...... I see amazing hair in India, but less so in Thailand.  Lucky for me my Thai partner is 25% Indian by origin.

Sounds simple, doesn't it?

What if the price is 10 baht per strand, 100 baht per hour, plus the cost of any product used in the process?  And, we'll keep adding strands and weaving them in until you say you're satisfied...

You won't know whether the cost is going to be 1,000 baht or 500,000 baht.  And that's not accidental.

Ironically it's widely available locally in India, for next to nothing in comparison.

Well you ask for full price just like you would if hiring a builder. You don't hire a builder without asking the cost upfront.

Is that too hard? 5555

"You won't know whether the cost is going to be 1,000 baht or 500,000 baht."

Absolute nonsense. If someone can't price a job for you they are incompetent and should not be used.

If they say 30,000 to 50,000 baht and you accept the range then you are prepared for the max.

According to the news article, she had "short" hair before going to the salon. Doesn't say why it was short but she obviously wanted longer hair and didn't want to wait for it to grow (would take a couple years probably to get to that length and she obviously didn't want to wait that long for whatever reason).

A wig would have been the smarter choice as Vacuum mentioned. Also note that she waited a month before going back to the shop (and apparently had removed all the extensions as they were "too uncomfortable").

And yet some people would rather watch the fake drama on "reality" shows like the Kardashians.

Funny you should ask that question, because I spent the weekend with an Aussie guy who does contract work for the government.  He told me he always bids low, and exactly to spec.  Then he makes his profit on the inevitable change orders when they figure out the published spec was inadequate, or they add features during construction.

Not unlike upselling at a hair salon.  Go in for a trim, and walk out with a perm, some tinted highlights, a manicure, and 3 or 4 bottles of "product".

The trim, BTW is listed at $12.00.  So you know it up front.

Would depend upon the attitude of the farang.

I have never been overcharged for anything in any thai shop/ business.

Then again I am polite, well mannered and respectful

The offerings change, but the concept of upselling goes on...

Been on holiday ?, there's been no one on the forum defending

Thai's, lately, what you say is B/S, nothing to do with attitude, its

what they can get away with, and in the case of the hairdresser,

scam their own people, just like everyone else in the World, really.

can i ask you a serious question. is your only agenda in life to pick through every comment looking for anything that might be even slightly anti thai to run to their defence as if they can't defend themselves. don't get me wrong i love it here have had a thai family for a few decades, have spent most of my life here and will probably never leave because i like it. but i have to say i do find your whole defensive comments and often in the wrong when someone wasn't even being anti thai a little weird. do you wear an amulet by any chance 555
