I would very much appreciate if someone could confirm and discuss my situation.

I quit my teaching job in Thailand in May 2018. I gave my work permit to my employer for them to cancel, as they said they would cancel it themselves. I wanted to go with them to cancel it and then arrange to leave the country shortly after, as I would be required to do so, as my extension of stay (of Non B visa) would cancel out and I would need to leave Thailand within 24 hours. My employer was busy and said they will take care of it after I left the country. I flew out of Thailand to and travelled around Kuala Lumpur for 1 day and came back into Thailand on a 30 day exemption.

I assume this therefore cancels the extension of stay as I am now on a 30 day exemption. I wanted to stay in Thailand for a while as a tourist, on exemption before going back to my own country. So I flew to KL and back to allow me to stay in Thailand for a while.

I am unsure if my employer has yet cancled my work permit. I assume that the 30 day exemption stamp means the extension of stay is no longer valid? Im now considered a regular tousist?

What happens when my employer does cancle my WP and I am still in Thailand? I am on a 30 day exemption and may wish to extend that to another 30 days. I assume this is not considerd overstaying because I am currently on a valid 30 day visa exemption?

Is there anything else I need to do or have I missed anything in regards to canceling my extension of stay or work permit? Thanks in advance.

Leaving the country and re-entering the country voids your extension but it does not cancel it.

Immigration has nothing to do with work permits.

You will not have a problem getting the 30 day extension.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Love your work.

Ok. What does void essentially mean? As in, I realise I did not go and actually cancel the extension or WP per say. But does this voiding of the extension effect me in future if I wish to stay longer ir get another job. It is my understanding I dont need a termination letter if I fly in and out of the country? Which I have done.

This may be a grey area?

Thanks.

Not formally canceling the extension at immigration cause problems if you want to apply for another extension in the future. Some immigration offices have refused to issue one until the old extension is canceled.

Ok. I will therefore contacy my previous employer about this. But as far as the 30 day extension of my 30 day exemption for anoyher 30 days, this will be no problem?

Thanks.

Ask them to give you a termination letter dated on or after the date you left the country. Then save it incase you have a problem in the future.

No problem for the 30 day extension.

Ok so I assume if I have a void stamp it will effect me if I want to go on an actual tourist visa in future? After my 30 day extension expires I am probably going to KL to apply for a 60 day tourist visa. It is at this time that the letter my employer you recomended will be required?

It just seems very convoluted. Is this just because Thailand immigration want to know why my employment was terminated? Like im clearly just wanting to be a tourist, after a time that I was working here. Why all the fuss?

I also do have a letter from my employer dated the 30th of May. But its more of an employment recomendation letter. And the date is before I left the country and re-entered on an exemption. Will that letter suffice?

You don't have a void stamp. The extension is no longer valid since you got a new entry which means it is for all intents and purpose is void.

No problem to get a tourist visa.

It would mean you left your job on good terms. It might help if you had problems applying for another extension.
