Trouble in Pattaya - again: Mass brawl in Thailand’s family friendly resort

A video which appeared to show a large group of people brawling in broad daylight in Pattaya has been shared on Facebook.

The incident is believed to have taken place at around 7am on Thursday morning.

During the nearly two minute clip a group of foreign men appear to fighting with women and/or ladyboys as shocked onlookers watch on.

It is not known what started the incident, which happened close to the entrance to Walking Street, or if anyone will face charges for their involvement.

In the clip numerous people can be seen punching and kicking, while a foreign man appears to punch a woman, knocking her to the ground.

Later in the clip a Thai woman who appears to be injured can be seen sat on the floor.

The clip is unlikely to do anything to help the image of popular resort town, which this week has found itself the subject of more negative headlines.

On Tuesday, an Australian man was arrested who police said ran a company offering sex tours to foreign tourists in Pattaya.

Under the name of "AUSTHAI TOURS" Stephen Allan Carpenter, 49, advertised a boat trip with women supplied in the sea off Pattaya.

Thaivisa later obtained video footage from one of Carpenter’s boats which showed five chubby foreign men stood around filming two women as they performed sex acts on each other.

Last Sunday, an unidentified foreign man required medical treatment for a head wound after being attacked by a group of ladyboys at the Pook Bar in Soi Bua Khao.

Tourism officials have sought to re-brand Pattaya in a bid to shake its image from that of one associated with sex and vice to a family friendly tourist destination.

6-8 people and 2-3 of them fighting and its a "mass brawl"

It's called selling the news. CNN does it, the BBC does it, heck everyone does it these days. No longer a trait of the British tabloid press anymore. There's a lot of competition so the more appealing your news headline the better.
It's those who visit or live there that shape the image. Blame them.

Say no politely and you have no problem. London is much more violent than Pattaya. These are stupid stories and should stop.

I work in Dubai currently and most Muslim countries in one form or another are police states. Freedom goes to their heads. I did respect the old Arabs a long time ago and the feeling was mutual. no religious problems at all then. Now i cannot stand the arrogance of these youngsters who have the silver spoon from the sweat and toil of others. They are supposed to be well educated these days but in my experience they are as thick as two short ones.

Arabs. Young Arabs.

I remember when it was only old Arab men who came here. Mind you, that is going back many years ago...

Must have been a real long time ago. Thirty year ago bars on walking street had signs posted in their bars that read

  No Dogs or Arabs allowed

When I first came to Thailand there were many stories of one Arab  hiring a girl but when she was taken to the room there were numerous men there who would gang rape her and sodomise her. They were hated by many Thais back then.

I'm guessing the arabs went mental when they saw their girl 'willy' was bigger than their own.

But to blame Thaivisa for painting a negative image of Pattaya that then creates a bad name for the city is wrong. It's those who visit or live there that shape the image. Blame them.

They perpetuate negative stories out of context.

There were Never such signs. The sign that banned Arabs referred to their religious values

I did not mean 30 years ago in Pattaya or Thailand. I was saying in general. In my 20's the older Arabs were decent. The ones the same age were idiots and sleazy like i think the ones that you are referring to. I lived and worked in Thailand in the 80's so i do know what you mean.

British cities are far more violent. These headlines are shameful, cliched trash.

are you sure about that?

2017

UK 723 murders = 1.11 per 100,000 people.

Thailand latest figures 2014,  2,649 murders  = 3.9  per 100,000 people, doubtful.

but some reports say in 2016 thailand had over 3,000 gun murders thats a rate of 4.45  per 100,000 people, if you add all counts of murder the amount is aprox 5.6 - 6.3.

Regardless of statistics it is evident, and has been widely reported, that Thailand has a gun problem. What may make Thailand stand-out however is that so many murders we hear about – often murders are not reported in the English language media.

I am aware there is a lot of gun violence in Thailand. However, this year in London there have been 70 killing , hundreds of knifings and the greatest amount of Acid attacks inn the world.  I feel safe in Thailand. I feel safe in Pattaya. I do not feel safe in London or Manchester where random violent attacks are common. Most people dare not walk the streets after dark. Guns are legal in Thailand so there is bound to be more gun related crime. I repeat Chicago, London , Manchester are far more violent and dangerous than Pattaya.
