Activists call on PM to allow public participation in reform process

BANGKOK, 27th June 2018 (NNT) - A group of activists has called on the Prime Minister to ask for more opportunities for the public to take part in the reform process.

The activists, led by Mr. Thawatchai Jaroonchart, submitted a letter to Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday, to allow the public sector to have a more active role in the efforts to advance national reform.

According to the activists, more public participation should be encouraged to address five issues: the overhaul of the public and government administration; the improvement of the people’s well-being; the fight against corruption; the participation of the general public and the elimination of social inequality and injustice.

They said that there is a need for the public sector to help because the government has, so far, not been able to make much progress in the reform process and the government and the National Council for Peace and Order should show sincerity by seeking more information and the opinions of other groups.

Asking a coup leader to eliminate something he embraces.   Only elected official can be held to account, not men with all the guns.  Being above the law really does not encourage people to change anything.

Look at the source. The "National News Bureau of Thailand". A junta mouthpiece in other words, who are setting up another angle to justify more arrests and / or another election delay.

Take a look at their Facebook page and tell me this is not state propaganda.

The Junta has agreed to abide. Thsy will consult Suthep as public participation. ?

No way the PM will agree to this and allow for progress to be made. Still, it might be something used to show the public just how much interest there is in government to get anything done and could be used tactically in an election campaign.
