Chinese accused of disrespecting temple and ‘lucky’ tree

PATTAYA:--Nong Plalai residents are blaming Chinese tourists for cutting branches off a tree they consider sacred and plastering stickers all over temple grounds.

Locals around Nong Ket Yai Temple complained to the abbot about the pruned tree as well as stickers plastered within shrines.

Although those complaining didn’t see the perpetrators, they blamed Chinese visitors, claiming Thais would never do such a thing.

The stickers found were indeed those worn by members of Chinese tour groups.

Thus the Chinese got the blame also for cutting back “mahasajan’ plants and a supposedly “lucky” tree.

Thongdee Chaeli, a resident who looks after the temple, told reporters that the Modern James Co. is running a tour business and brings in a lot of tourists to the temple, with the majority being Chinese.

Of course. What tourists don't visit a temple without a pair of pruning shears.

Ah..they lopped the lucky (money) tree?

The insensitive Han at it again..

When will it ever end for Thailand -land of unique culture and superiority in all things?

I feel their pain.

But you don't. Hopefully you are less abusive of Thai Culture than you sound. It can be a painful experience.  These Chinese are lucky they were not caught.

It might be possible to identify the perps by testing DNA left on boogers around the tree.

Get the electric chair ready for those pesky Chinese.

Of course if they did wrong, condemn them, after all Thais would never disrespect anything, would they !!

Sad fact there are people all around the world who do disrespectful things.

If you demonstrably have no respect for Thai culture then you should not be here. Better still demonstrate your contempt in front of a group of Thais and then feel their pain...inflicted on you? Bad brain day?
