Amlo seizes 134 million baht in bank accounts of 4 senior monks in temple fund scandal

 

 

The Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) has sequestered about 134 million baht in bank accounts of four former senior monks implicated in the temple fund embezzlement scandal.

 

According to Amlo website, the seized cash deposits and bank accounts included: seven bank accounts worth 132 million baht of Phra Phrommasith, former abbot of Wat Saket; one bank account worth 162,151.76 baht of Phra Phrommethi, former assistant abbot of Wat Sam Phraya; one bank account worth 1,745,953.37 baht of Phra Phromdilok, former abbot of Wat Sam Phraya and one bank account worth 27,876.08 baht of Phra Vichitthammaporn, former assistant abbot of Wat Saket.

 

It also ordered the seizure of the 100th year building under the name of Dhammakaya Foundation and Thammasith Foundation located on the compound of Wat Dhammakaya in Pathum Thani province after it was found that the money used to build the building was embezzled from Credit Union Klongchan Cooperatives by  Supachai Srisupa-aksorn, former chairman of the cooperatives who was a faithful follower of Phra Dhammachayo, former abbot of the temple.

Surely cannot be correct, monks live in poverty, never touch money, only live on food/ money donated by poor destitute people.

Why does this not surprise me. All religions are about 3 things and 3 things only MONEY, POWER AND CONTROL OF THE POPULATION!!!

Agreed Colin-thin as rakes the whole lot of them!

 

All this reminds me of the Catholic church in the late middle ages-a career,wealth and power.

 

I guess the little guys at the bottom might be a bit different..

First of all, Buddhism is not about religion, but I can aggree Thai practice Buddhism close to be a religion. However, Im just surprised people do not wake up, and realize they are being scammed by any powerful instutution claiming they make you to a better person by paying for salvation, luck and be free of guilt. Have to believe in stupid rituals and practise them as well obey people who think they are higher than you. 

 

Gold and fancy clothes will always have a huge controlling effect on people! 

 

Well enough for today, but Im very impressed by people who wants and need to believe in people who claim they have higher connections. 

I thought it would be a whole lot more,maybe

they have not found all the accounts.

Buddhism is a religion. You don't need a god to make it a religion. 

 

If you're looking to live by a set of rules, make up your own using common sense and empathy. Genuinely good people don't need a form of badge to tell others they're decent. They just are.

What fact? Im not arguing your view, please do not try to push your view on me. I say it is not a religion, based on what I have learned and from what I can read! So I guess I cant  claim it is my personal view, since many have found the same answer based on their view of facts!

Again, it’s not my view. You can claim anything you want. You can claim that 1+1 is 3. That doesn’t change the fact that it’s not and your ‘view’ is incorrect.

Given my feelings about organized religion, I would generally agree with you   ..........BUT

This is the temple/sect that Thais who used to be red supporters are overwhelmingly members of. Given the governments  fear of these people, they could be totally guilty,  or completely innocent. After all we get no FACTS, that can be verified. And so it goes.

I agree with your statement in lots of ways.Things are decidedly opaque when reporting "facts" in Thailand.

 

Nevertheless,I am astonished to see the wealth lavished on temples here altho' not half so astonished as when I walked into the cathedral in Toledo,Spain and saw the gold sweated and plundered from the inhabitants of Central and South America in the 16th-17th centuries.

Vatican have one leader below god, buddhism have no centralized leadership, even som countries have tried or claimed such power. Many small chiefs for the poeople, or as my gf say, many different companies.
