Driving from Chiang Mai to Bangkok

Featured Replies

Hello to everybody,

I will drive with my kids from Chiang Mai to Hua Hin on Wednesday. Can someone give me good tips for gas stations to stop on the way. We need clean bathrooms and at least a  7eleven. We prefer Esse stations but know that the most convenient are PTT, so they will do, too.
I can go about 4 hours at a time. Is there a way I can find this information on Google maps or any other app that works with an Iphone 4?
I appreciate all advise especially for the route passing Suphanburi and Nakhon Pathom.

Having done this route this route a few times I would not worry about gas stations,It is rare to go more than half an hour or so without seeing a gas station.Almost all of them have clean toilets and either a 7-11 or Family Mart. You usually see the signs from a long distance away(they are very high up) and are most common on the exit of towns along the route.Quite often you will see a small sign on the side of the road saying the next xxx gas station is x klm away. There may well be other gas stations before the signposted one run by other companies

There are PTT stations along the main Highway. Chiang Mai to Theon 3 hours Ptt station.Tak Ptt station, Kamphang Phet Ptt. Nakhon Sawan multiply PTT station. I like them because you can use the handicap restroom with a sit down toilet. They all have Amazon coffee and tea shop. If you want a 7 it has to be PTT because they have contract. Also some bigger PTT stations will have a KFC. I use these when I travel around on my bike so they are country wide.

The only negative with the PTT places is if you get in behind the big buses, even the gents is full of "desperate" women (some would class this as a plus).

Pass the buses then stop at the next PTT.

Thank you all! So I will just look out early enough before I run out of gas. I usually can make 550 km, but when driving fast I am not sure. I am planning on leaving the highway after Nakhon Sawan for Chainat and Suphanburi. I hope there are nice places too.

I will look out for busses bevor I turn into a station?

You think too much.

PTT alone should have a big station about every 50 km or so.

Not counting the others.

4 hours! Thailand is not the Australian outback.

Our district town now has 5 PTT stations (major and minor) in a radius of about 7 km.

On my way to Khon Kaen (100 km) I pass three big PTT stations and about another dozen filling stations.

And thats in Thailands "outback".

Just for completeness: what fuel do you prefer/need?

There is an app by Ptt for all stations location.
