Hi, almost time for my first exstention based on retirement. My date is August 16th for the extiention to end.   I have 4 full pages left in my passport, it takes 2 weeks to process U.S passport renewel . should I get new passport first?  I am afraid now the time is to close, or should I just apply for my one year extension and then renew my passport with more pages?   I know the visa with re entry permit will take one full page, is thier a requirement for min amount of pages left?  Thank you very much

It takes half a page at most.

6 clean pages are required for exit and entry visa to and from many countries.  This therefore is not a matter of the size of the stamp but a rule that applies in many countries. If you travel a lot it can be a real problem

You've got a point. I stopped reading the OP after the first paragraph and answerd the question regarding the space requirement for a retirement extension.

I see now that in the second paragraph he talks about a visa and a re-entry permit. A bit confusing.

He can get the extension of stay at his local immigration office and, if he plans to to leave and re-enter Thailand before his new passport arrives, also a re-entry permit but as you say, this raises the question about how many empty pages the immigration of the country he goes to wants to see.

4 full pages should be enough for the extension, re-entry permit and an immediate trip.

I would get the extension first and renew the passport so that I don't have to watch the mail everyday.

What is the benefit to renew the passport first? The extension stamps can be transferred easily to the new passport.

Required 6 blank pages on your passport to enter a country? I don;t believe it....must be confused with the 6 month validity.

Plus...if the passport expires before a year is up the extension will only be granted until that date of expiry.

Thanks, that's good to know.

I honestly wouldn't have remembered to factor that into my timing.

You helped me immensely.

Thanks. My next trip is to the Philippines in late September. I was thinking in stead of having to move old exstention of stay and re entry permit to new passport when they will expire in a few weeks would be silly.

I may even have enough pages to do my Philippines trip I counted 5 full pages left.   I just was not sure if Thai immergration had a rule on passport pages or not.

You have one more month until deadline.

You expect two weeks for the new passport.

I would wait up to three weeks.

As others wrote, extension in old passport only until expiry of pp.

Good case: passport arrives in time. You can take both pp to the office.

Do the stamp transfer and extension all in one visit.

One visit, one 1900 payment.

Bad case: new pp does not arrive in time and you are in no worse situation than now.

1900 Baht for a partial extension.

Second visit with new passport, another 1900 for the full year extension.

It also depends on your travel plans. China requires 2 blank consecutive pages. But although there are references to a six page rule on various forums i cant get confirmatiom
